After church many of the congregation attended the soup and sandwich lunch at the WI Hall sponsored by the Girls Guides. Gordon Bosman has returned home from Wingham and District Hospital. The community wishes Gordon a speedy recovery. Joyce Van Camp from Cayley, Alberta was a guest for a week at her parents, Jim and Mary Hunter. She also visited with other family members, and friends enjoying our beautiful spring weather. John and Linda Campbell visited on the weekend with Fred Johnston at Queensway Nursing Home in Hensall. Melanie Pletch greetedworshippers at Knox United Churchon Sunday, April 20. The front of thesanctuary was adorned with springflowers.Melissa Snyders welcomed thecongregation. The hymn-sing selections were, Seek Ye First and Pass It On, accompanied by Elizabeth Procter. Jenna Hopper assisted in the lightning of the Christ candle. The call to worship was read responsively. The gathering prayer and The Lord is My Shepherd were read in unison.The senior choir sang, He LeadethMy Soul.After the singing of the children’shymn, Jesus’ Hands Were KindHands, the children sat in the frontpew for a time with Melissa. She showed them a picture of her pet dog, and then asked the children what pets they had. Animals are to them, she said what they are to Jesus and God. Jesus is the shepherd and children are his flock. Just as people make sure their animals are looked after, God looks after them. After The Lord’s Prayer, thechildren adjourned to Sundayschool. The scripture lesson was Acts 2:42-47. The congregation sang TheKing of Love.Melissa’s message was entitled Do You Know the Shepherd. God offers to lead and promises to care. People just have to believe that He will lead them on the right path. He is always there and waiting for them to reach out. Ken Procter and Ben Procter collected the offering. This was followed by the singing of theoffertory hymn,Your Word O God.The closing hymn was, All theWay My Saviour Leads Me.The choral benediction, May theBlessing of God, concluded theworship service. The ham and scalloped potatoes supper is on Wednesday, April 23 with sittings at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are available from the stewards. There is a meeting in the church basement on Thursday, April 24 for all those interested in helping with daily Vacation Bible School which will be held Aug. 18-22. Contact person is Jim Barnes 519- 887-6163. Going, going With spring, comes the annual Maitland Conservation Foundation dinner and auction in support of the Wawanosh Nature Centre. This year’s event, the 20th anniversary year, was held Friday, April 18 at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre. In addition to the silent and live auction, there were raffles, card draws and door prizes. The proceds have enabled over 100,000 visitors to participate in programs at the Nature Centre. (Vicky Bremner photo) The April meeting of the Belgrave Women’s Institute began with the Opening Ode, the Mary Stewart Collect and O’ Canada. Doreen Marks gave three readings, Celebrating Plant Earth, the Youth of the Year and Start Your Garden Early. The minutes of the last meeting were read by Dorothy Coultes. A letter was received with information of a safe food handling course to be held on May 28 at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex. The Women’s Institute could host an environmental workshop with speakers if a group of 20 people signed up. The June meeting will take the form of a tour with the date to be announced later. Members are asked to help with cleaning at the hall on April 28 and 29. The annual meeting began with the president, Nancy Jardin stating all offices vacant. Dorothy Coultes was nominated as recording secretary. She read the minutes of the previous annual meeting. Reports were given by Wilma Higgins, Gladys Van Camp and Dianna Robinson. The nominating report was given by Doreen Marks and the officers were installed by the District president, Jean Fraser as follows: past president, Audrey Fenton; president, Nancy Jardin; vice- president, Doreen Marks; secretary- treasurer, Dorothy Coultes; assistant secretary, Dianna Robinson; ROSE co-ordinator, Ruth Olson; District director, Audrey Fenton; alternate, Jean Nethery; Branch directors, Doreen Marks, Kay Roberts, Ruth Olson; public relations and sick and shut-ins, Gladys VanCamp; examiners, Norma Moore and Dianne Robinson. A copy of the financial statement for the past year was distributed. The yearly fees were paid as the roll call. The WI grace was sung. Lunch was served by Norma Moore and Dorothy Coultes. A collection of articles given by members to be sent to the LHSC, Children’s Hospital was on display. All dogs must be identified by means of a tag and licence, issued for a (1) one year period by: Friday, April 25, 2008 The fee schedule shall be as follows: 1/All Dogs (except those listed in #2) - males, females, and spayed females $20.00 per dog 2/Pit bulls, Pit bull crosses, Staffordshire terriers $100.00 per dog 3/Kennel License Fee $75.00 (for a kennel of dogs that are registered or eligible for registration under the Animal Pedigree Act) 4/Late Payment Charge $20.00 per dog (Shall be assessed in addition to the licence fee, if the licence and/or tag is not purchased by April 25th) Excrement: The By-law requires dog owners to forthwith remove excrement left by a dog, from property other than the premises of the owner of the dog. Any person contravening this provision is subject to a $50.00 fee.
