The Citizen, 2008-04-17, Page 13Jean Bewley hosted some special
visitors recently when her grandson
Scott and his wife Heather Raven
from Alberta were here for a week’s
holiday.
Jean also had grandsons Steve and
Matt Baker, from Toronto, up for a
visit with them and to enjoy a great
meal. It’s always fun to go to
Grandma’s house even when you’re
older (late 20s) and find she has a to-
do list!
Welcome back to Glenn and Jean
Bridge, who have returned from a
couple months in Florida. Jean’s
already keeping busy helping out
good friend Jean Davidson. And of
course, Glenn can keep busy with lots
of things.
Attending the Brian Oldfield’s
graduation ceremony at Aylmer
Police College were Jim and Darlene
Oldfield, Max Oldfield and Audrey
Chambers. Brian is a member of the
Peel Regional Police Force.
Bill Craig is a patient in Stratford
hospital. George Langlois is also
there and is progressing well in
physio. Mildred Gillis is now home
from the hospital. We hope she is
improving every day. Leona Snyder
is in Listowel on respite care while
she also improves and gets stronger,
as is Anna Cunningham. Home and
healing is Joan Bateman, who has
suffered a broken wrist/arm. John
Cousins is also home after having a
knee replacement and we wish them
both speedy recoveries.
A mishap on the former 16th ofGrey resulted in some pigs notmaking it to market as they should. ABrussels Transport truck slipped offthe road and knocked off a hydropole. The hydro was out for many onthe line. Another truck was sent toreload the pigs as was a tow truck toright the truck. Friends andneighbours were also on the scene toaid in the moving of the pigs.
Walton Hall was a busy place on
Saturday evening with the Duff’s
United Church Peel, Plaster and Paint
silent and live auction. The funds
raised are to go to the repair and
painting of the sanctuary of the
church.
There were garden items,
children’s toys, quilts, tools,
paintings, dinners, baking nand more
in the silent part of the auction which
ended at 7:45 p.m. The live auction
began at 8 p.m. and there were 20
items up for grabs by the full-house
capacity crowd in the hall.
Auctioneer Greg Wheeler, who
donated his services for the hour-long
auction, did a great job encouraging
the bidding for the benefit of the
church.
When all was said and done at the
end of the evening, over $8,500 was
raised for the project.
It was a great job by the
fundraising committee and helpers
which included Judy Lee, Glenda
Morrison, Marie McGavin, Donna
McClure, Monique Baan, Elsie
Carter, Tom Leeming, Neil McGavin,
and Jeff McGavin. The lunch booth
was well supported downstairs as
well with Marie, Phyllis Mitchell,
Jamie Mitchell and Joelle Glanville
doing a great job.
Barry, Karen and Ben Hoegy have
returned from a trip to Morrisville,
Tennessee and a visit with daughter
Sherry and her husband Eric Delay. It
was a laid-back trip spent mostly just
visiting, catching up and just
enjoying the time away. They spent one day at the SmokeyMountain State Park, where they sawlots of beautiful scenery but very fewanimals this time. They stopped in atthe visitors’ centre where they hadplenty of stuffed animals of the areaon display and a history of theformation of the park. The usual shopping, going out fordinner and family stuff filled out their
week away and the long drive there
and back.
Returning from a trip to Florida is
Pauline Gulutzen. She has been away
a couple of weeks and hergrandchildren were quite excited thatshe h as returned.Congrats to a few lucky winners onthe weekend.
