(LAS), a subsidiary of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, is offering the program in an attempt to encourage the implementation of energy efficient solutions in key municipal facilities. Information will be provided for necessary improvements. At the April 7 meeting of North Huron council, clerk/CAO Kriss Snell said that the complex is the largest user of energy so it was decided this would be the best facility for the audit. “If successful getting the application we will need due diligence in following part of the audit as well,” he said. A committee of council, consisting of deputy-reeve Murray Scott, councillor Murray Nesbitt and Snell, will consider the results and look at what policies the township would be able to set. In addition to the audit, Snell suggested that the committee look at things such as internal recycling programs, to see where improvements can be made. Recipient Matt McNichol received the Don Higgins Memorial Trophy, given to the goalie displaying the greatest skills at the Brussels Minor Hockey awards night. McNichol is goalie of the Atom hockey team. Brian TenPas presented the award. (Photo submitted) Recognition The recipient of this year’s Tom Schauber Award for most improved Atom player at Brussels Minor Hockey’s awards night was Scott Dolmage. Making the presentation was Brian TenPas. Another award was presented to the most improved Atom Local League player. The recipient was Christopher VanVenn, who was absent. The Community Centre board officially named Coultes last week and the board formally began taking bookings through her, not the municipality of North Huron’s recreation department, on Monday. She will be taking bookings at (519) 357-1908. Having a solid booking system in place resolves one of the big three issues that came up earlier this year. The other two were liquor licensing and security, both of which are also well on their way to being resolved. Community Centre board chair Paul Gowing says that a liquor licence for the centre has been approved, pending one last inspection by the Huron County Health Unit. Once this is written in stone, users will no longer have to apply for special occasion permits. To address security, a requirement of North Huron’s insurance policy, a swipe card system is in the process of being installed. This will increase the security of the overall building, but it will also leave a record of who was in the building and when. However, while these two systems are in their final stages of completion, the centre is still taking bookings.
