While this year was her last year of eligibility at her age level, Rinn plans to continue playing in Seaforth for an adult team. However, Rinn was picked up by the Ottawa Seaway Valley Devils after her Seaforth Assassins were eliminated at the provincial championships and travelled with them to the national championships for the second year in a row. She came back with a gold medal for the second year in a row as well. The Devils went through the tournament, held in Windsor this year, undefeated, only allowing one goal all tournament. They opened the tournament with a 5-0 victory against the host team, and closed out the day with a 4-1 win against a team from Saskatchewan later that day. The next day was spent beating Manitoba, then another team from Saskatchewan before going into overtime against the Eastern Thunder, another team from Ottawa in the final, and eventually taking the crown by a score of 1-0. Rinn was one of five players picked from the Assassins to play for national title contenders, setting up across the ice from a teammate, Stefanie Archambault of Auburn, in the title game. Archambault was picked up by the Thunder, who eventually came away from Windsor with a silver medal. Archambault, who was playing in her first national championship, said she had a great time in Windsor and that there was a lot of competition among all of the teams. “Anyone who was watching the final game would tell you it could have gone either way. It was a great game,” she said. “I think in the end we were all just happy to get picked up and have the chance to play in the nationals. Since there were so many of us there though, it made us think that maybe [the Seaforth Assassins] should have been there.” The Assassins sent five players to the national championships. Rinn was alone on the Devils, while Archambault had two other Assassins on her team, with a fifth player setting up shop on the Windsor team. Rinn has been playing broomball for over 10 years now and has played for the Assassins for the last three. Two years ago she was picked up by Windsor after her Assassins were eliminated in the provincials, eventually coming in fourth at the national level and last year, she was picked up by Ottawa, coming in first in the nation. Rinn, however, will not be eligible for the tournament next season, due to her age, 20, and she will play in Seaforth. Her life in sports, however, is far from over, as Rinn is working on furthering her education in the recreation and leisure program at Fanshawe College. She hopes to eventually find work as a school teacher or in corrections. Archambault, unlike Rinn, still has one more year of eligibility with the Assassins, and she plans to take full advantage of the opportunity. After finally reaching her first nationals in her nine years of broomball experience, Archambault hopes to return to the national championship next year, but with her home squad from Seaforth. Archambault is in the midst of a year off from school after graduating from Central Huron Secondary School. She has also been bitten by the corrections bug and plans on attending college for police foundation this fall.
