More changes for the village of
Walton. The house on the former
Jackson farm was taken down last
week. Not a lot of activity around the
place early in the week, a couple of
trucks, a few windows out and then
on Wednesday a big machine
arrived.
Come Thursday morning, the
bricks started to come off and by 4
p.m. all that stood was the frame
building of a once beautiful home.
By nightfall, that was down as well.
By lunch Friday the building had
been burned and all that remained
was some of the foundation.
We used to spend a lot of time in
that home in the early 80s when
friends Casey and Joan Jones lived
there. Many meals and many good
times were had there.
The Walton Hall held its first roast
beef dinner of the spring on Sunday.
There was a good crowd of over 70
enjoying the meal and hopefully a
couple more will be held. The head
cooks of the day were Judy
Emmrich, Barb Durrell, Valerie
Shortreed, Linda McDonald, Karen
Hoegy, Leona McDonald and
Howard Hackwell. Behind the
scenes help included Audrey
Hackwell, Judy Lee and Jo-Ann
McDonald.
Off to Toronto and the Rogers
Center were Chris and Caden Lee to
watch the supercross. Brett Lee had
been there most of the week doing
his thing for the CMRC and a good
crowd was on hand for the evening’s
fun.
Speaking about men having fun,
that would be the crew of gents that
went off to Louisville, Kentucky toattend the truck show. I’m sure theysaw trucks, had fun and Don reportsthat they did a lot of talking. Goingon this highly-conversational tripwere Don Dalton, Stan McClure,Lorne Glanville, Ken McClure,Wayne Dolmage, Neil McGavin,Gord Pryce, Brad Campbell, GaryMcNichol and Mike Devereaux.
They left Wednesday and returned
late Saturday evening.
I understand there was a great
turnout for the Shawn Kellerman CD
release party at Cinnamon Jim’s. I
hear the music was great and people
attended from the Brussels/Walton
area and from quite a distance
including Owen Sound, London and
Kincardine.
A belated birthday party was held
for Anna McNichol on March 22 at
the home of Jim and Danica
McNichol in Seaforth. Anna
celebrated her 84th birthday on
March 13. A delicious meal was
catered by Tucker Meats of Seaforth
for the 20 family members in
attendance.
Helping mom celebrate were
children Don and Janet, Gary and
Kelly, Neil and guest, Marg and
Bruce Lamont, Ray and Linda,
Dianne and James Miller, Jim and
Danica, Murray and Kathy, Larry
and Cathy with grandson Kyle
arrived in time to help with the
leftovers.
They had a great afternoon social
together and Anna has booked her
85th birthday party for next year for
the same place and time already.
Happy belated birthday Anna from
your many Walton friends.
Thursday evening the ladies of the
Walton church were busy with a
roast beef dinner being served across
the road at the new McGavin
Compact Equipment building. The
event was a customer focus meeting
for light construction, contractors,
landscapers, representatives of
municipalities of Huron County and
others.
They held a product showcase
prior to the meal, then discussions
on services and products that would
be of most interest to everyone. Itwas a great evening with over 40people in attendance.A team of half Brussels and halfMitchell people attended the curlingbonspiel in Monkton on Saturday.Steve Knight and Jo-AnnMcDonald, along with Brad Knightand Christine Workman, had a greatday but curled not so great. They
won the first game then had their
butts kicked in game two so in game
three they thought they should do
better. They had a fine start, but
unfortunately a poor finish and
finished fifth for the day and had a
lot of laughs.
Merry Christmas, again. A gift
received and gifts given for
Christmas were enjoyed on Sunday
night by ourselves and friends. Rick
and I, Judy Lee and Mary Bernard
went to London to attend the
Martina McBride concert. It was a
fantastic show with Johnny Reid
performing first, then Emmerson
Drive, then Martina for over an hour.
Fantastic. We went out for dinner
first and had a really nice time
together enjoying our Christmas
gifts. There were lots of people from
the area there including Keith and
Gloria Wilbee, Fred and Heidi
McClure, Lisa Glanville and Anne
Pelletier, Greg Wilson and Sharon
Montgomery.
March birthdays finish up with
Judy Shortreed, Connor denDekker,
Nicole Williamson, John Baan,
Brandy Leslie, Jack McLachlan.
April kicks off with Matt Lee,
Shirley Clark, Peter Bennett, Mary
McCall, Krista Shortreed and Gary
Bennett. Happy birthday to all.

Good eats
Walton Hall was the spot for delicious homecooking on
Sunday night as the Hall board hosted a roast beef dinner.
Among the hungry diners was Owen Taylor. (Vicky Bremner

WHAT IS ASTHMA?
Asthma is a chronic breathing disorder affecting both
children and adults. It is characterized by:
• Asthma symptoms can include cough, severe shortness
of breath, chest tightness and wheeze and usually occur
after exposure toe allergens, viral infections and exercise,
or exposure to irritants such as fumes and cigarette
smoke.
• Exposure can cause inflammation of the airway wall and
abnormal narrowing of the airways, which may lead to
asthma symptoms
• An asthma attack can be frightening with feelings of
suffocation, breathlessness and loss of control and can be
potentially life threatening
• Asthma can develop at any age, but is common in
childhood.
