Five area young men returned
home on Saturday after playing in
the Junior National Broomball
Championships.
Joel Salverda, Sean Bechtel,
Roman Sturzenegger, Drew Taylor
and Adam DeBoer were all part of a
last-minute team put together when
Newfoundland dropped out of the
tournament. Taylor and DeBoer
played with the Seaforth Hitmen
and Salverda, Bechtel and
Sturzenegger played with the Blyth
Renegades. Other players were
from the Mildmay Moose and the
Ottawa Valley Ice Dogs.
The fellows had a good time, did
not win many games but played
very hard in the fast moving, high
calibre broomball games.
The team name was the Stars and
five of the team members, including
Taylor took part in a skills
competition where they finished
second by one-quarter of a second
in the relay race.
For many of the team players this
was their first and for some their last
or only Junior Nationals. It was
quite an experience for all involved.
Rob Hunking put the team
together and managed it. Fred
DeBoer was the trainer.
