Meetings two and three of
Wawanosh Diverse Dolls were held
on March 10 at the Jeffersons’
house.
The president opened the first
meeting with the pledge. She then
led roll call which was to explain the
items in each cultural backpack. The
members voted on which cover page
they would choose.
The club spent some time reading
from the book about what to do
when you meet new friends in
different countries. Different
countries all had a very different
way of saying hello. For example,
Inuit people hug and rub noses.
Next, Mary Ellen Foran led a
discussion on how Canada is like a
tossed salad with many cultures, but
all mixed in like a vegetable blend.
They thought about what cultures
influence their lives, such as Italian
when they eat pizza. The members
then learned about famous
Canadians from different cultures,
such as Louis Riel, Oscar Peterson
and David Suzuki.
The members took a road hockey
break between the meetings to
celebrate Canadian culture.
When the members returned from
their game, Mary Ellen welcomed
them to the next meeting with some

Congratulations to Ann Grigg.
She was the winner on Saturday,
March 8 for the Auburn Lions
hockey draw.
Seventy-one children from JK to
Grade 6 took part in the Olympian
March Break adventure of Pirates
and Princesses March 12. They
joined in the games, crafts, worship
and wore some amazing attire. This
week the Olympians are having a
cowboy/cowgirl night. March 26
they are to wear a spring colour.
The Walkerburn Club met March
10 at the home of Ila Cunningham.
There were eight ladies in
attendance.
Vera Penfound opened the
meeting with a poem Crabby Old
Woman. She followed in prayer and
The Lord’s Prayer was said in
unison.
Betty Archambault gave the
minutes of the last meeting. Roll
call was answered. Ila Cunningham
gave the treasurer’s report.
Betty read a thank you card, and
other business was discussed.
The next meeting is to be held on
April 14 at Vera’s home, with Betty
providing lunch and Ila the
program.
Vera showed completed log cabin
quilt blocks that were given to them
and it was decided she would
assemble them and the Walkerburn
Club will make a lap quilt out of
them.
All the members gathered around
the kitchen table and made St.
Patrick’s Day tray favours for
Clinton hospital. When these were
completed, Deanna passed out
material and demonstrated how to
make a hand-sewn crazy quilt block
out of material that has been
donated to the club. They all took
their block home to be completed by
next meeting.
Two members also took home a
strip of puff quilt blocks to be hand
sewn together. This is a project they
have been working on for some time
out of material cut out and donated
to them by another donor. When
finished this small quilt will be
donated to a shelter.
Vera was to provide the program,
but as they had a full afternoon they
didn’t have any. The ladies were all
pleased to see Ila’s daughter Debbie
and her children again.
The National Teen Challenge
Choir was welcomed by Pastor
Dave Wood on March 16 at Huron
Chapel Evangelical Missionary
Church. It was awesome to hear
these amazing men as they sang,
played and shared how God has
changed their lives.
Monday, March 17 the Early
Years program had a Saint Patrick’s
Day party. Participants were asked
to wear green and they had Shrek
stop by for a visit. Shrek and Early
Years program staff, Yvonne Wilts
read a book to the children.
Welcome home to chaperone
Rick, Stefanie Archambault and
Danielle Bean. They are back from
their memorable school trip to Italy.
There is a buck ’n doe for Craig
Empey (son of Bill and Darlene
Empey) and Shannon Cranston
happening this week.
