Results of the Legion euchre which had 7 1/2 tables in play are as follows: high, Marie Glousher 85, Hugh Cool, 81; lone hands, Jean Nethery, four, Doug Cartwright and Jack Lee with three; low, Dini Nethery, 44, Jane Glousher, 34; door prize, Geraldine Dale and share the wealth, June Patterson, Gloria McEwing and Jean Plaetzer. The next euchre is in three weeks on March 31 because of Easter Monday. BLYTH UNITED CHURCH Greeting at Blyth United Church on Sunday, March 9 was Doug Howson. Ushering were Elaine Brown, Joann MacDonald and Terry Richmond. Guest organist was Lynda MacGregor. The guest speaker, Sandy Morris, welcomed everyone to church for Palm Sunday. The choir sang the anthem He Came Riding on a Donkey while the children and some adults walked around the church waving palm branches. The Call to Worship was read responsively and followed by the first hymn Hosanna, Loud Hosanna, the opening prayer repeated in unison and the New Creed. The children’s hymn was All Glory Laud and Honour. Jon Hakkers read the minute for missions. Sandy showed the childrenhow to make a cross out of the palm branches and also out of paperso they could make them downstairs.Everyone sang The Lord’s Prayerand did the actions. Jon Hakkerscarried the lit candle as the childrenwent downstairs for their time ofworship and fellowship. Psalm 118 was read responsively. The scripture readings were from Matthew 21: 1-11 and Matthew 26: 17-46. David Onn read the eyewitness account of Jesus based on the book Witness the Passion by Richard Exley. Would we have the courage to face the things Jesus faced. With God’s guidance we would be able to face our many trials. The next hymn Tree of Life and Awesome Mystery was sung. Sandy drew everyone’s attention to the announcements in the bulletin. Special attention was given to the congregational meeting on March 18. The last hymn The Church is One Foundation was followed by the commissioning and the benediction and the singing of the Lord We Pray. Everyone was invited downstairs to join with the Sunday school for cake as it was Birthday Sunday for March. Back to back After meeting last week in Brussels, the Blyth Mites took on the Brussels Mites in Blyth on Saturday. There were plenty of goals to light up the scoreboard, if the teams had been keeping score.
