The Thursday night darts had 10
players take aim at the boards.
The first-place team was Catrina
Josling, Gord Jacklin and Sandra
Josling. The second-place team was
Heather Little and Norm Dobson.
Earning high shot honours were
Heather, shooting 125, and Gord,
shooting 115. The privilege of being
the sixth skunk of the year went to
team John Harrison and Sharon
Robbins.
The Friday night supper of baked
ham was enjoyed by nearly 30
people. This week being Good
Friday, there will be no meal.
Leaving on Friday were five
gentlemen who had earned the
opportunity to compete at Provincial
darts in North Bay. Competing as a
team were Ken Bird, Ron Schmidt,
Bob Richardson and Eric Ross.
Competing in doubles play were
Eric and Ron and competing in
single play was Norm Wylie.
The group left early Friday
afternoon for the long drive and
arrived in time to play in the blind
mixed draw. There were nearly 200
people present for the fun night so
not many darts were actually thrown.
Play began at 8:30 a.m. the next day
so it was an early rise.
The men report that they had a
great day with the teams winning
three out of seven, doubles winning
three out of eight and singles
winning five out of eight. Not a bad
day but not good enough to advance
to the playoff round.
They report that the competition
was very well run and it was an
excellent day. Congratulations to
these men for doing their best to
represent Branch 218.
The Brussels PeeWee team, with
the support of the Brussels Legion,
participated in the Young Canada
Week Hockey Tournament in
Goderich this week. The team
played against St. George (near
Kitchener) on Friday, and were tied
at one apiece after regulation time.
Unfortunately they lost in the
shootout.
Game two saw them play Dundalk
At the Branch
10 take aim at the boards
Queen Victoria and her entourage
had a charming time at the United
Church on Saturday when they
stopped in for tea. In her solemn
manner, the Queen and her loyal man
servant, Sir John followed proper
protocol as the guests arrived in all
their finery. The kitchen staff outdid
themselves with dainties including
asparagus, cucumber and tomato
sandwiches, petit fours, scones,
clotted cream and all the other things
that make for a proper tea. Serving
wenches by the names of Beth, Deb,
Donna and Natalie made each of the
guests very welcome.
The Duchess of Winthrop, the
Countess of Brussels, the Princess of
Bamberg and the Queen of Walton
attended in their royal finery.
The PeeWees spent part of their
holiday in Goderich when they did
their very best in the Young Canada
Week tournament. One of their
games ended in a shootout that took
eight, yes eight tries to see who
would be named the winner.
This is Holy Week. Community
Christians have been gathering daily
at noon at the United Church where
the ministerial organized the Lenten
meditation and lunch. Friday service
is at 9:30 a.m., the most solemn,
thoughtful time for Christians.
Holy Week is all in preparation for
Easter Sunday, a time for joy and
celebration. After all the thinking of
Lent and Holy Week be sure to go to
your church and enjoy the good news
of the Risen Christ.
If you’d like a fun evening on April
4, tickets are available for dinner and
a production of Music and Madness,
a company from Cambridge that will
have you humming and laughing.
Call one of your United friends to
track down a ticket.
The Town and Country cooks have
lost their baking sheets. They were
last seen in the kitchen of the United
Church. If you are inadvertently
storing them they are needed badly
to feed all the dear folks who attend
Dining for Seniors.
Get your Easter bonnet out, watch
for the bunny and get ready to
celebrate.
Happy Easter to you and yours.

A royal afternoon
Tea with Queen Victoria made Brussels United Church the place to be on Saturday afternoon.
A perfect excuse to dress up and rub shoulders with royalty was not wasted as many local
women came out to enjoy the experience. After being announced, The Page, John Lowe,
presented the guests to the Queen for a quick chat, but when the Queen extended her hand,
it was time to take your seat and enjoy the tea and snacks. From left: Anne Laidlaw, Doris
