The Brussels Atom Reps faced off against Bothwell on Friday night in Brussels, tied at a game each. It was a very intense game with lots of passing, stealing and shots on both sides. When Bothwell got a penalty for tripping, Mitch Kellington was able to score for Brussels to take a 1-0 lead. Bothwell came back to tie it up shortly into the second. With only five minutes left in the period, Kellington again netted one, this time assisted by Lexi Smith and Scott Dolmage. Brussels pulled off a 3-1 victory when Nic Zwep scored near the end of the third, assisted by Hayden TenPas and Tim Waechter. For game four, in Bothwell, Brussels had the advantage of a 2-1 series lead. Bothwell lit the scoreboard first at the end of the first period. Smith scored early in the second off a smooth pass from Taylor Higgins. Not a minute later, Waechter scored a definite one- timer to give Brussels a 2-1 lead. Bothwell scored minutes later to tie it up. Near the end of the second, Kellington passed the puck out front to Austin Johnston to give Brussels a 3-2 lead. The pressure was on. Bothwell tied it up in the middle of the third. Several more shots on net were made by both teams. With just 1:33 left on the clock, Kellington passed the puck to Waechter who netted it, top shelf, to give Brussels a 4-3 lead. Goalie Matt McNichol was able to keep Bothwell from scoring anymore and countless throughout the game. After a very, very, long, snowy drive home, the kids (and parents) celebrated their series victory at Tim’s. The OMHA final series is against Flesherton. As of press time, there was no set schedule. Check with the players or parents for game times. Enroute to victory It’s been a busy beginning to March for Blyth Atom Reps as they’ve played against Wallace and Drayton. The team defeated Wallace on home ice March 3 by a score of 4-1, then shellacked them the following night 6-0. On March 5 they beat Drayton 3-0. (Vicky Bremner photo) The Brussels Novices won both games last week to send them on to the WOAA Novice finals in the Jacobi division. They played against Minto last Wednesday night, in Brussels, with a full roster to skate away with a 5-1 win. Brussels took 16 shots on the Minto net. Scoring for Brussels were Delayna Smith with two, and Logan Kellington with three. Assisting were Wyatt Machan, Daniel Fritz, Noah Terpstra and Kailey Wheeler. Daniel Fritz helped Derrick Waechter in net when he stopped one of the Minto rebounds. Waechter made 15 saves. Friday night saw them playing again in Brussels. Before the game, the kids were presented with a keeper trophy from the Blyth Novice tournament, champs for the C division. It was also a great boost to be cheered on by the entire Brussels Atom Reps, who played right after. Kellington was quick to light up the board, scoring at just 45 seconds into the game, assisted by Smith. Minto came back to tie it at the end of the first. In the second period, Kellington scored the second to take a 2-1 lead, again assisted by Smith. Brussels skated off with the 2-1 win. Coach Wheeler kept his promise to the team and is now sporting a new hole in his ear. Now they face either Shallow Lake or Chatsworth. Hard-fought A game with serious implications was the toast of the town last Friday as Bothwell travelled to Brussels to play the third game in their best-of-five series. Going into the third game, the teams were tied with one game each, but the Brussels Atom Rep team came out on top with the home fans on their side by a score of 3-1.
