The wearing of the green is
sneaking up fast – dig your best
green duds out and get ready to play
Irish for a wee while.
March break is in full swing and
lots of visits and overnights are part
of the plan. Most years, March break
is a welcome respite from the
regularity of school attendance. This
year it’s just a break not related to
weather.
Granddaughters are a good
incentive to sort items of history
past. Jordan and Robyn and I got to
the back corner of a long used
storage space. Oh my, the years just
spin by, when the toys, books, cards,
magazines and special things
surfaced.
Great moments were
acknowledged in girlie giggles when
items of wonder were expressed as
the girls tried to ponder their Dad
and Uncles Curt and Phil at their
age. Style, pictures, hair cuts and
toys have all gone through change
just like the people involved.
After lots of talking and sorting,
the room has had a badly-needed
visit, a little editing and stories in the
girls’ heads to last a while.
Ethel United Church had a
successful men’s night out last
week. Excellent food of the Huron
County kinds, followed by Ross
McCall reviewing his family’s route
in supporting agriculture in this area,
made for a pleasant night at the Grey
Central Public School. A good time
with good food, good folks and
prizes to boot.
It’s always time to remind people
to support the food chain that is right
here at home.
Be sure to ask at the grocery store
where the meat came from – you
may be surprised.
If the customer is always right we
need to start asking for Ontario
vegetables and milk and Canadian
meat.
Fish from this part of the world
would be a welcome choice as
well.
If we are what we eat, then we are
the United Nations at the dinner
table. We can eat better knowing that
the food was raised, killed and
process by Canadian standards.
We need to read labels and then
ask for local or at least national
food.
We deserve the very best. It’s right
here. Just ask.
Easter is early this year – like very
soon. It makes decorating easy. The
pretties from St. Patrick’s Day can
come down and the Easter
decorations can go right up. Oh how
efficient.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
Brick by brick
Kids Care, a new group dedicated to global change comprised of five Brussels Public School
students, made a presentation to the rest of the student body last week imploring them to
consider joining the five members of the group. Kids Care has already committed to the 30-
Hour Famine later this month and they have started the Brick By Brick campaign which, if the
whole sheet is filled with bricks, at $100 each, Brussels Public School will have raised enough
money to build a school in Kenya. From left: Courtney Bloemberg, Heather Bone, Teegan

On March 4 at approximately4:45 pm Huron OPP were advisedthat a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck
which had been left running in front
of a business in Exeter had just been
stolen.
With assistance from OnStar, it
was determined that the vehicle was
in Mitchell and traveling south.
Officers located the vehicle but the
driver refused to stop for police and
fled. The chase was eventually
called off due to public safety.
While continuing to work with
OnStar, it was determined that the
vehicle was stopped in Huron East
on a sideroad. Officers arrived on
scene within minutes, but the
suspect had fled on foot. At that
time the suspect was able to evade
officers including the canine unit.
At approximately 12:30 a.m. a
