Six enthusiastic 4-H members
were successful in becoming 4-H
Ontario’s 2008 Ambassadors at the
4-H Ontario Conference and annual
meeting on Feb. 23.
This year marks the fourth year of
the program. The successful
candidates will spend the next year
promoting 4-H across the province,
instilling enthusiasm amongst those
already involved with the program
and encouraging new members and
volunteers to take part.
Lesleigh Elgie, of Brantford, has
been a very active member of
livestock and life style projects and
will complete her 100th 4-H project
during 2008. Beyond the club level,
she has participated in many
provincial and national 4-H
opportunities both as a member and
youth volunteer.
When she’s not busy with 4-H,
Elgie is an honour student, avid
curler, and singer in her high
school’s vocal ensemble.
Jaclyn Hutton, of Monkton, has
completed 30 4-H projects during
her first seven years as a 4-H
member. She has participated in
several local and provincial
opportunities and has had the
fortune to be involved nationally
through the Scotiabank 4-H Junior
Beef Heifer Show and a Youth
Exchanges Canada trip to Alberta.
She is also actively involved in
athletics, the Ontario Junior
Limousin Association, her local
church and Ontario Students Against
Impaired Driving.
Kelsey Miller, of Milford, has
completed 28 4-H projects to date,
including both agricultural projects
and a wide variety of lifestyle
projects such as chocolate, sewing,
drama, woodworking and clowns. In
addition to attending a host of 4-H
camps, conferences, and exchanges,
Miller plays hockey and soccer.
When asked how he would be an
asset to the Ambassador team, he
said he “cares about the continuation
of the 4-H program”.
Stephanie Neubrand, of Monkton,
completed 33 4-H projects during
her first seven years as a member.
Her 4-H ‘resume’ includes several
local agricultural and Go for the
Gold Competitions and many
provincial conferences. Beyond the
4-H program, Neubrand is involved
with Ontario Students Against
Impaired Driving, Communities in
Bloom, Vacation Bible School, the
Milverton Fair, sports, and her high
school Athletic and Spirit Society.
Julia Smith, of Ancaster, has
completed 53 4-H projects to date.
While she has attended many 4-H
opportunities as a participant, Smith
has also facilitated at several
provincial 4-H activities such as
Careermania and Youth Adventure
Camp. During the summer and fall,
Smith stays active volunteering at
five fairs including Ancaster,
Binbrook, Rockton, Paris, and The
Royal. No stranger to leadership
roles, she is the president of
Wentworth Junior Farmers.
Justin Williams, of Picton, has
completed 42 4-H projects and
several national and provincial
activities thus far during his tenure
with the program. His greatest skill,
the “ability to draw others in and get
them involved fully” will be a
tremendous asset to the Ambassador
team. When he’s not promoting 4-H,
Justin assists with local church
fundraisers and is the local Relay for
Life 4-H team captain, making
tireless efforts to raise money for the
Canadian Cancer Society.
