Connie Goodall has recentlyjoined the staff of the Twp. of NorthHuron in the newly-created positionof community development co-ordinator. In this role Goodall will assume the duties of economic development with a great emphasis being placed on the role of community in continuing to build a safe and sustainable environment in which to live, work and play. Some of North Huron’s greatest assets, obviously, are its people and the strong and amicable working relationships that already exist between our community groups. The community development co- NH to buildcommunity Twenty-two seniors enjoyed a potluck lunch together at Memorial Hall on Feb. 27. A report on plans for the annual bus trip was given and it was announced that sign-up must be complete before Friday. Donations in support of the Alzheimer Society and Blyth Public School music program were made. Further plans were made for the Zone rally to be held April 7 in Blyth. Students from the Blyth Public School music program provided entertainment. There were vocal, violin, and piano solos and several numbers by the band led by their teacher, Jane Badham. She also told the group that their last year’s donation had helped in the purchase of a trombone from a local business, Pianovations. The Blyth Swinging Seniors are always pleased to have these talented young people perform at our meetings. Bodie Craig is recovering at home after knee surgery. Happy birthday to Brendan Hallahan who celebrates his birthday on March 7. Happy birthday to Barry MacDonald who will celebrate March 8, Grace McNichol March 9 and Nellie Mason, March 10. Results of the Feb. 25 euchre are: high, Dini Nethery, 81; Bill Nethery, 79; lone hands, (tie), Vera Hesselwood and Helen Lee with four each, Ross Taylor, four; low lady, Jean Plaetzer, 39; Geraldine Dale, 49. The door prize was won by Helen Lee. Share the wealth went to Gloria McEwing, Pearl Mason, Marie Glousher and Doug Hugill. There were eight tables in play. The next euchre is March 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Legion Hall. Mikala Ainsley, daughter of Mike and Katie is being treated at Children’s Hospital in Toronto. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Sorry to hear that Deanna Hollanger is a patient in Wingham hospital. World Day of Prayer is being held this year at the Blyth Community Church of God at 7:30 p.m. All the churches in Blyth participate in this service. BLYTH UNITED CHURCH Greeting at Blyth United Church on Sunday, March 2 were Barb and Doug Howson. Ushering were: Elaine Brown, Nancy Hakkers and Terry Richmond. Guest organist was Lynda MacGregor. Guest speaker Emily Phillips welcomed everyone to church for the fourth Sunday of Lent. The call to worship was followed by the first hymn I Danced in the Morning, the prayer of confession repeated responsively and the assurance of pardon. The choir anthem was Father Almighty with Avon Corneil singing a solo part. The children’s hymn was When Mothers of Salem. The children brought the food for the food bank in Wingham to the front of the church to be blessed. Emily told the story of the children being brought to Jesus. She told the children they were special to Blyth United Church because they are the future of the church. The children repeated the prayer after Emily and everyone sang The Lord’s Prayer while doing the actions. The scripture readings were Luke 2: 25-35, Psalm 78 read responsively and John 19: 25-27. A Little Child the Saviour Came was sung. Emily’s message to the adults was My Name is Mary. She read the story of A Tribute to Mary. She told the story of Mary’s life with Jesus. She related the story of Jesus’ life. The UCW is making turkey pies on March 19 and beef pies on March 26. Call Joann McDonald if you wish to order at 519-523-9274. If you wish to help come out on these dates and enjoy the fellowship. There will be one more set of pies in April. The Sunday school is planning some special events for spring break. On March 12 all the children in the community are invited to a movie afternoon from 2 - 4 p.m. at the United Church. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Bring an item for the food bank as admission. Safe sledding Joe Hallahan of Blyth grooms the hill by his home for youngsters to enjoy the day long. He has been grooming for about four years and has lights for nighttime safety. Everyone is welcome and Hallahan even supplies the tubes if needed. Rebecca Oldridge tries one out. It would repeal and replace the current Zoning By-laws. This Zoning By-law implements the Official Plan which was adopted on December 20, 2004 by the Township of North Huron.
