Terry Rutledge won the Auburn
Lion’s hockey draw on Jan. 26.
Congratulations to Jeff and
Denise Cowan on the birth of their
son. Jesse Mark was born on Jan.
30, weighing 8 lbs. 9 oz. With lots of
hugs and kisses, Zack and Katelyn
welcomed their little brother into
their home in Varna.
Many of you will remember Jeff
growing up in the Auburn area.
Congratulations as well to
grandparents Chris and Barb Cowan
and Jim and Brenda DeJong.
Sunday night, Feb. 3 Pastor Dave
Wood showed pictures of his 2007
visit to Israel. His presentation was
filled with interesting history and
beautiful scenery. While visiting
there he made the news when the
bus he was a passenger on was
stoned.
Many schools were again closed
Tuesday, Feb. 5 due to early
morning fog.
Understandably delays in exams
and speech presentations can be
nerve racking for the students.
However, it certainly must be a
tough call for the powers that be,
whether to run the buses or not in
the uncertainty of our Huron County
winters.
Students then had another day off
on Thursday after a ferocious storm
blasted us Wednesday evening.
A young couple from Goderich
had quite an adventure last Thursday
when they took a lovely snowmobile
ride to our hamlet of Auburn. Little
did they know that the Mighty
Maitland had backed up and was
overflowing onto the snowmobile
trail.
They quickly found out that
snowmobiles and water don’t mix.
Thank you is what they want to
relay to several people. They
appreciated a passing motorist from
Dungannon for offering them a ride.
This man also pushed their original
rides’ vehicle up to the highway
after it got stuck. Richard Moore
from Auburn worked quickly to
remove their sleds from the flooded
trail, and then got that section of
trail closed off.
Also they were thankful to the
Dobie family for the warm clothes,
to James for the ride home, and to
Justin for his help with their sleds.
They said that the care and
concern of all of these folks brought
happiness to their disappointing
day.
Please be careful when near the
river folks, the water is frigid.
Happy 15th birthday wishes to
Matthew Randell on Feb. 17 and
also to his mom, Tammy Randell
(Poels) who will be celebrating her
birthday Feb. 16.
