girls hockey team travelled to
London on Thursday to play the
London Devilettes. With both teams
tied with 33 points, the battle to
finish first in regular season
continues.
London came on strong and
gained a 2-0 lead going into the third
period. Hannah Davidson came up
huge for the Lightning scoring twice
in the third period. Assists went to
Kelly Gribbons, Sydney Smith and
Caroline McDowell.
London pulled its goalie in an
attempt to win rather than tie but the
Lightning’s strong defence and
goaltending prevailed leaving the
game at a 2-2 tie and both teams now
tied with 34 points.
As the battle to finish first
continues the Devilettes have one
game remaining in regular season
while the Lightning has two.

tournament with a convincing 10-1 win over Beaverton last Saturday. Always a successful

Lightning girls lost both their
provincial playdown games against
the Stratford Aces this week in the
Western Division of the Lower Lakes
Female Hockey League sending
them into a must-win situation.
Tuesday night during their home
game in Howick the Lightning lost a
3-1 battle with Victoria Bertrand,
Port Elgin, putting in their only goal.
On Thursday night they travelled
to Stratford and lost 3-1 with Tammy
Freiburger, Wingham tallying the
lone goal.
That gave the Stratford Aces four
points out of a needed six-point
accumulation to send them on to the
provincials.
The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA
Lightning girls won their home game
against the St. Thomas Wildcats on
Saturday by a score of 3-1.
Goals came from Eastlyn Bellamy,
Sauble Beach; Dru Austin, Goderich
and Lindsey Ceaser, Owen Sound.
Sunday’s home game was
cancelled due to bad weather.

It was high action at the Brussels arena on Feb. 4 as the
local Midgets took on Tiverton. While the hosts put out a
great effort in this contest it was the visitors who came away

Lightning needs win
The Blyth Atom Local League
came back to win its last league
game against BCH. They now sit
and wait for the playoffs.
With one coach absent, a player
absent and one player returning
from an injury the boys and girl
played an awesome game.
Scoring in the second period was
Dalton Carey with the assist going to
Jimmy Lane.
BCH soon came back to tie the
game.
The third period had fans biting
their nails. Mackenzie Nesbitt
scoring for Blyth, however BCH
cancelled it. Carey soon scored
again with assists going to Dylan
Walton, bringing the score to 3-2.
BCH then scored again, however
Brandon Marshall placed one
between the pipes, with an assist
from Mackenzie. Carey shot
inanother to earn his hattrick, while
Owen Weber picked up the assist.
Fourteen seconds later Carey scored
again, the assist going to Patrick
Franken. The last goal was scored by
Nesbitt for a 7-3 victory.

Atom Local League wins
Winners for the second draw at
the Brussels Curling Club were:
first, 42.5 points, skip Steve Knight,
vice Catherine Thomet, second John
Dorsch and lead Mervin Bauer;
second, 41.5 points, skip Ernie
Lewington, vice Peggy Aitchison,
second Bob Alexander and lead
Catrina Josling; third, 40.5 points,
skip Murray Hoover, vice Jean
Bewley, second Darryl, Morrison
and lead Jeff Lewington.
Curlers win
second
draw
Brussels Tykes recently played the
undefeated Seaforth squad.
Brussels played a solid defensive
game but were unable to get too
many chances on net. The score was
2-0 for Seaforth.
