Committee to overseeSeaforth’s FHT clinicWhile the new Family Health Team building in Seaforth remains a bone of contention among Huron East councillors, several more steps were taken at council’s Jan. 22 meeting towards the completion of the building. First, the financing was re-tabled by councillor Larry McGrath, who has been critical of the project since its inception. McGrath called for council to discuss the financing of the building further, after deciding earlier this month to finance it from reserves which would get promissory notes of reimbursement over a specified amount of time. However, the existing business plan was retained on a vote moved by councillor David Blaney and seconded by Bill Siemon. The existing plan is scheduled to be reviewed one year after the official opening of the building. Further to the point, councilappointed some of its members to anewly-formed building committee. The committee will oversee the construction of the Family Health Team building and will also play a similar role in the construction of the upcoming Brussels Library project. Mayor Joe Seili and councillors Siemon and Les Falconer will serve on that committee. Finally, in a recorded vote, clerk- administrator Jack McLachlan was appointed as the municipal representative to authorize changes to the Family Health Team building with the contractor. The vote came in 8-3 in favour of the motion. Councillors Frank Stretton, McGrath and Bob Fisher voted against the motion, while councillors Orval Bauer, Blaney, Falconer, Andrew Flowers, Alvin McLellan, Siemon, Joe Steffler and deputy-mayor Bernie MacLellan voted in favour of the motion. Seili was absent for the meeting. Walk on From left: Mary Lou Perrott, Phyllis Henhoeffer, Eileen McGlynn and Kathy Waechter got in the spirt of things as they ‘walked for memories’ during the Alzheimer Society fundraiser held at F.E. Madill Secondary School, and other sites throughout the county, on Saturday. The Wingham walk brought in approximately $10,000, while an approximate total of $30,000 was raised county-wide.
