Sorry to hear that Graeme McDowell is a patient in London hospital. Lloyd Appleby has returned home from Clinton hospital after suffering from pneumonia. We wish him a speedy recovery. BLYTH UNITED CHURCH Greeting at Blyth United Church on Sunday, Jan. 27 were Joan and Lavern Clark. Ushering were Nancy Hakkers, Terry Richmond and Elaine Brown. Guest organist was Lynda McGregor. Guest speaker Emily Phillips welcomed the congregation to church. The call to worship was repeated responsively followed by the first hymn This is the Day and the Prayer of Confession and Assurance of Pardon. The choir anthem Lead Me to the Rock was sung. The children’s hymn I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry, was followed by a minute for mission, read by Bryce Glousher and Jon Hakkers. Emily had the children come up on the platform so they could see the congregation. She asked everyone to put their hands up if some of the situations she read applied to them. She told the children that people are all different but they are all a church family. Brett Glousher carried the candle and the children went downstairs for their time of worship and fellowship. The scripture readings were from Matthew 5: 1-14 and the 131 Psalm was read responsively led by Nancy Hakkers. The next scripture was from Genesis 1: 31. The next hymn New Every Morning was sung. Emily’s message to the adults was Taking Inventory. The definition of inventory is “an itemized list of goods.”A good time to take inventory is spring cleaning or when an insurance policy is renewed. Emily explained what the Beatitudes meant to her and said to celebrate the good things in life. Look both ways Safety is always first when crossing the street, and because not all Blyth children have the benefit of adult accompaniment, a crosswalk and possibly a crossing guard are being considered by North Huron council at the intersection of County Road 4 and King Street. Karen Scott helps some Blyth Public School students across County Road 4 on their way home from school. Children, from left, Hannah Ortman, seven, Chad Ortman, six and Ben Kolkman, six. (Shawn Loughlin photo) Continued from page 1 concerned, North Huron is ready to go. “Our road superintendent has the signs ready. We just want to make sure everything is done legally with the county so we don’t have them pulling the signs out. I’m not saying they would, it’s just that it’s not really our road. I don’t get the impression that the county is opposed to it, it’s just one of those things that needs to get done,” he said. North Huron clerk-administrator Kriss Snell told council that the hiring of a crossing guard is a much more complicated process than it sounds. Because the position is so part- time, Snell said, three or four people are needed to cover illness, vacations and other absences for a position that fills around two hours per day. The issue was tabled by council to give it a month or so to research further.
