The Blyth Midget girls Black Ice
broomball team played in the
Mildmay tournament this weekend.
Their first game put them up
against the Seaforth/Palmerston
team. They were an even match for
the Black Ice.
With a lot of mid-ice play and not
many shots on net the game went
into overtime. The girls battled back
and forth and in the last minute
Seaforth/Palmerston got a break and
scored the game winner.
The Black Ice then faced the other
Blyth Midget team, the Rollers. It
was another close game with the
younger Roller team standing up
well against the Black Ice.
Again the game went into
overtime and in the dying seconds it
looked like a sure goal for Katelyn
Roetcisoender of the Black Ice when
Jen Snell came out of nowhere to
make the save.
The game ended in a 0 - 0 tie.
With only three girls teams in the
tournament, this put the Black Ice
playing off against the Rollers with
the winner playing Seaforth/
Palmerston in the final. It was
another close game against the
Rollers as they were determined to
beat the Black Ice.
The Rollers took the Black Ice into
overtime for a second time. Finally
after eight minutes Karly Howard
scored to put the Black Ice in the
final.
The final against Seaforth/
Palmerston was a hard-fought match
up. And as a repeat of their first
game they went into overtime.
Seaforth/Palmerston scored after six
minutes of play to take the
championship.
