Ireland Award for highest marks in the schoolwork division

Jo-Ann McDonald reported that all
is ready for the presentation evening
on Friday, Jan. 25. Comrades
receiving awards have been notified
as have those to be initiated. A social
time will be held following the
awards.
The Branch hosted the Huron
County Beef Producers for their
annual meeting on Wednesday
evening. Nearly 90 enjoyed the roast
beef dinner and guest speakers for
the evening. Special guest was MP
Paul Steckle and his wife.
Branch helpers were Mabel
Willis, Deb Cann, Barrie Currie,
Ross and Marg Bennett, Leona
McDonald, Charlie and Grace
Procter and Jo-Ann McDonald.
Thanks to all.
The accessibility committee met
on Wednesday evening with John
Rutledge. They covered a lot of
options and John answered many of
the group’s questions. It was a very
productive meeting and with a few
more things to look into, the Branch
will soon be ready to move forward
with a feasibility study.
The Thursday night darts had 11
players taking aim at the boards. The
first-place team was Harry Smith,
Heather Little and Sandra Josling.
Finishing second for the evening
were Sharon Robbins and John
Harrison. The high shots were by
Gord Jacklin with 108 and Sandra
with a 120.
Darts are every Thursday night at
8p.m.
The Friday night super of roast
beef was well attended. This week is
ham and scalloped potatoes.
Comrade Glenn and Jean Bridge
managed to get away without
anyone knowing of their 50th
wedding anniversary, so belated best
wishes to the Bridges from the
Comrades of Branch 218.
It was Zone euchre on Saturday at
Blyth with 12 comrades hoping to
be winners. Only one team
comprised of Bob Richardson,
Sandra Josling, Eric Ross and Lloyd
Glanville and finishing ninth will
advance to district play in Belmore.
Having a good day at the cards
were team John Harrison, Harry
Smith, Bush Whittard and Norm
Dobson and team Jo-Ann
McDonald, Helen Dobson, Rick
McDonald and Jason Konarski.
It was a fun day with 44 teams
participating. The first-place team
was from Seaforth.
Double winner
Meagan Dolmage received the David and Joan Perrie Award at the Brussels Agricultural
Society meeting Friday for most points in the junior section of the fall fair. The Perries were
on hand to present the award. Meagan Dolmage was also the recipient of this year’s Cardiff
Award, presented Friday night by Jeff Cardiff. The award is for the most points in the junior
