Livestock for the week ending Jan. 11
were 2,334 head of cattle, 436 lambs
and goats. On Tuesday, fed steers and
heifers sold $1 to $2 higher. Choice
steers and heifers sold $82 to $85
with sales to $89. Second cut sold $78
to $81. Cows sold on a steady trade.
On Thursday veal sold on a good
active trade. Lambs, sheep and goats
sold steady. On Friday, calves and
yearlings sold on a steady trade.
There were 459 steers on offer.

Cargill Limited presents a watch
to each member of the winning team
at the Huron County go For The
Gold competition. This year’s team
was Katie Sparling, Carrie
Logtenberg, Caroline McDowell
and Melissa Sparling.
The Watson Home Hardware
Team Judging Competition Award is
presented to the top team in the
Huron County Judging
Competition. This is held in August
of each year in Seaforth. Members
of the winning team are Kristina
Drennan, Bethany Kresky, Brent
Martin and Jillian Martin.
Canadian Imperial Bank of
Commerce, Huron County Branches
donate an award to the top overall
judge at the Huron County 4-H
judging competition. This year’s
winner was Raina Vingerhoeds.
Hill and Hill Farms Limited
Awards is presented to the high
junior judge at the county judging
competition. This year’s winner was
Vinghoeds.
The Cargill Limited Award for the
high intermediate judge at the
county judging competition was
presented to Crystal Blake.
The Hill and Hill Farms Limited
Award is presented to the high
senior judge at the county judging
competition which this year was
Brad Gilchrist.
The Hensall District Co-op,
Londesborough Branch donates an
award to the top novice judge at the
county judging competition held in
Seaforth in August. Jillian Martin
was the winner.
The TD Canada Trust Award is
presented to the champion
sweepstakes showperson at the
Seaforth Fair. Kayla Bishop is this
year’s winner.
The Vincent Farm Equipment
trophy goes to the club that had the
top educational display at the
Seaforth Fair. The winning display
was by the Huron Goat Club.
Hensall District Co-op donates an
award to the club exhibiting the top
exhibit of winter wheat at the
Seaforth Fair. This year that award
was won by the Huron Sheep Club.
Les and John Coleman of Kippen
present the award to the club
exhibiting the champion haylage at
the Seaforth Fair. The winner was
the Huron Sheep Club.
The Pickseed Canada Award is
given to the club exhibiting the top
exhibit of first cut hay at the
Seaforth Fair. The Huron Sheep
Club was this year’s winner.

Seaforth Fair. The recipient was the
Huron Sheep Club.
Cook’s Division of Parrish &
Heimbecker Limited Trophy is
donated to the club with the
champion white bean exhibit at the
Seaforth Fair. The winner was the
Huron Sheep Club.
The Russell T. Bolton Memorial
Trophy was presented to the Huron
Sheep Club for the champion corn
exhibit at the Seaforth Fair.
The Monsanto Canada Award is
awarded to the 4-H club that
exhibited the top exhibit of
soybeans at the Seaforth Fair. The
winner this year was the Huron
Sheep Club.
The next awards are donated by
the Huron County 4-H Leaders’
Association for the club secretary
book competition. The winners are:
first, Jillian Martin of the Lucknow
Beef Club; second place, Amber
Brodie of the South Huron Sheep
Club and third place, Leah
Vingerhoeds of the Huron Goat
Club.
Signal-Star Publishing of
Goderich is the sponsor of the 4-H
press reporter competition. The
winners are: first place Zachary
Drost of the South Huron Sheep
Club and second place, Nicole
Boyle of the Lucknow Beef Club.,
The Ontario Plowmen’s
Association Award is presented to
the most outstanding 4-H
agriculture member. The award was
presented to Erica Murray.
The Darrell Bergsma Award was
new for 2007 and was presented to
the member who exhibited
dedication to Huron County 4-H.
The recipient was Nicole Moore by
Darrell Bergsma.
The Warden’s Novice Award goes
to the novice 4-H member obtaining
the highest standing on the basis of
awards in Huron County. Jillian
Martin received the award.
The Don Pullen Award is awarded
to the 4-H member in Huron County
earning the highest number of
points on basis of awards for 4-H
Club work in 2007. This year’s
winner with 942 points out of a
possible 1,000 was Margaret
Vincent of the Lucknow Dairy Club.
The Murray Cardiff Citizenship
trophy goes to the top member in
Huron County who best exemplifies
the goals and aims of 4-H. Their
involvement in the 4-H program, as
well as organizations in their
community, church and school are
all considered. Other aspects such as
their leadership roles, ability to
communicate and overall attitude
are very important. The nominees
must be senior 4-H members and
have been involved in 4-H for a
number of years.
All club leaders are asked to
nominate members from their club
they felt qualified for this award.
The 2007 recipient this year was
Kayla Bishop.
