Redmen were able to defeat Listowel
in the first game by a score of 22-21.
In the second game the boys
cruised to a 39-26 victory over St.
Marys. Team captain, Craig

The Blyth Midget Icedogs
travelled to Palmerston to play
broomball on Sunday, Jan. 13.
In the first period Kurtis Kolkman
whacked the ball up the ice and
Cody Stute took control. Brent Drost
picked up the pass and with a clear
shot on the net, scored the first goal
of the game.
Palmerston earned a high-sticking
penalty and Blyth was unable to take
advantage of the powerplay.
Stute earned another assist after
shooting the ball at the net. Drost
shot the loose ball into the net to
earn his second goal of the game.
The Icedogs were working behind
Palmerston’s net and even though
Blyth was under another player as
the ref blew the whistle, Blyth
received a penalty for boarding.
With less than two minutes left in
the first period Palmerston was able
to get a goal during their powerplay.
In the second period, coach Dan
Nickel switched up positions for a
few Blyth players, to see how his
team would perform with the
changes.
Goalkeeper Graham Bedard came
out of the net to challenge the ball,
when Palmerston had a breakaway.
Unfortunately, Palmerston got
around him and scored to tie up the
game.
Blyth received a penalty for
boarding, and this time the team
successfully killed the powerplay.
Andy Bolinger worked the ball
up the ice and winger, Alex Hogan
shot it to Dan Dery who took
control, taking a nice shot on net to
score.
There were some tense moments
as Palmerston turned up the heat and
even pulled their goalie, but the
Blyth Icedogs took the victory by a
score of 3-2.

Blyth downs Palmerston 2-1
Congratulations to the Wingham
Curling Club’s Bantam boys team
who won the B side of zone Bantam
playdowns at Exeter on the
weekend. They advance to the
regional finals to be held in Welland
the weekend of Jan. 19.
The boys defeated an Exeter team
in their first game then lost to an
Exeter team in the A finals. The
boys regrouped and came up with a
victory over another Exeter team to
win the B finals and the right to
advance.
The team is Matthew Cottrill as
lead, Matthew Hallahan as second,
Kyle Forster as vice and imported
skip Matthew Dickson from
Elmira. There is no truth to the
rumour that Kyle Forster is going to
change his name to Matthew
despite urging from his mates.
Well done boys and we know you
will represent the club well.
