The Citizen, 2008-01-10, Page 17THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 2008. PAGE 17. At the BranchQuiet week at LegionBy Jo-Ann McDonaldIt has been a slow week at theBrussels Legion Branch with allholiday activities over, yet holidays
not.
The Cadets resumed meeting the
Tuesday after school began and are
back into routine.
The holidays saw families get-
together and that means extra pop
cans/bottles around.
Think of the Cadets and drop off
any returnable bottles and your pop
cans behind the Legion on Tuesday
evenings for the fundraising
efforts.
The Brussels Pipe Band members,
along with friends from the Listowel
Pipe Band, are busy practising and
organizing their Robbie Burns dance
for Jan. 26.
Along with the dance and the
terrific music of the Georgian Bay
Islands, the pipe bands put on a
show of their own with the
wonderful music of Scotland.
For all those people out there who
like to dance and love to hear thesound of the pipes, the Legion’s theplace to be that night. The Thursday night dart league
had 11 players out to take aim at the
boards. The first-place team for the
evening was Gord Jacklin, Marlene
Little and Devon Josling. The
second-place team was John
Harrison and Lawrence Machan.
The high starters during the night
were Marlene shooting 102 and
Gord shooting 124.
The Friday night supper was
salisbury steak. This week is turkey
deluxe.
The Zone double darts was held
on Saturday and there were five
teams off to Exeter.
Coming home for the second year
in a row with the first-place trophy
were Ron Schmidt and Eric Ross.
Congrats.
Also placing in the top eight were
Bob Richardson and Norm Wylie in
fourth place.
There were three other teams
darting for the Brussels Legion thatday. Having a good time were JohnHarrison and Lawrence Machan,
Andy Adams, Ken Bird and Anita
and Sarah Little.
Newsletters have been sent out
and hopefully all comrades have
received them. If anyone hasn’t let
the Branch know.
To be a member in good standing
there is only to the end of the month
to get your dues paid.
Membership is important to the
Branch and to continue the Branch’s
support of the community, we need
all our members.
We also encourage new
membership, so if anyone is
interested in joining, stop into the
Branch or call Greg Wilson,
membership chairman.
The Branch will host an
Honours and Awards evening
on Friday, Jan. 25 and we hope
many of our Comrades will
attend.
A winning strategy
Ordering a third period pizza didn’t slow down the 94.5 The Bull
Try Hards who squeaked out a victory last Friday, their first-
ever, against an all-star Wingham Ironmen alumni team. The
Try Hards had fun with the game, one of the main attractions
for North Huron Hockey Days, ordering pizza to their bench
and replacing their goalie with a pylon. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
