Tiie president ^Irs. E. Cox had charge of the meeting which opened with hymn 50, The scripture was read by Mrs. Beck and Mr. Beck lead in prayer. A Christmas reading was given by Mrs. Cox Mrs. Bill Townshend read the minutes of the last meeting and Mrs. Sowerby read the treasurer’s report. Roll call was answered with the exchange of Christmas gifts. , A summary of the year’s work was given showing a very pro- fitable year. Mr. Beck took charge of the election of officers for the com* ing year. Officers are: Presi­ dent, Mrs. Elgin Cox; first vice- president, Mrs, A. Bettles; sec-' ond vice president, Mrs. W. . Riddell; secretary, Mrs. B. Townshend; assistant secretary Mrs. A. Lockhart; organist, Mrs., Bill Cox; visiting com* mittee, Mrs. Riddell, Mrs.- Chester Sturdy; buying commit* ‘ tee, Mrs. A. Bell, Mrs. T. Sowerby. Meeting closed with the Miz­ pah Benediction and the hostess served a lovely lunch. Special Christmas service will be held this Sunday at 1:45. This will be combined service and there will be no Sunday School period. PERSONALS Wren Janice Merner of Shearwater, Dartmouth, came on Friday to spend several weeks leave with her parents, ’ Mr. and Mrs. Merton Merner. • . * * * Jim Butcher, St. Thomas, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. John Lindsay and his fiancee, Miss Ellen Lindsay.* * * Mr. and Mrs., Joe Mayman were in Windsor on Saturday and attended the wedding of the former’s nephew, Robert Caskenette to Miss Christine Warren. * * * . Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Gorime, Derek and Barry of Guelph visited their parents on Sunday., * * * Mrs. Charles Presber and Mrs. Arnold Bye returned to their home in Naicom, Saskat­ chewan on Sunday, after attend­ ing the funeral of their mother, the late Mrs. Chris Parker on Thursday last.* ♦' * The annual Christmas Sunday School party was held Saturday afternoon, December 15. The first part of the afternoon was spent • in playing games after which sandwiches and cookies were served. The highlight of the afternoon was when Santa arrived with gifts and candy for all. Laurie Cox who has been a patient in Clinton Hospital was able to return to his home last Friday. Impressive carol service The annual Candlelight Carol service, held in St. Andrews United Church on Sunday even­ ing was a very beautiful and impressive event. The auditorium, decorated with traditional evergreens and candles, was a lovely setting for the twenty.four voice choir, who, carrying lighted candles, moved up the aisles, singing the processional hymn, ‘A Song The World Is Singing’. Mr. Beck was in the pulpit and conducted the service, read­ ing the Christmas story as told by St. Luke and sung by the choir and congregation; ‘Angels from the Realms of Glory’, Little Donkey’, a women’s chorus, ‘Away in a Manger’, ‘O Little Town’; a Christmas Gloria, ‘In Heaven, In Heaven’; solo by Ernest Rehn, ‘It Came Upon The Midnight Clear’, ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’; men’s chorus, ‘When The Little Lord Jesus Came’; chorus and solo by Ted Dunn, ‘The First Noel’, ‘Let The Savior In’ and the recessional hymn, ‘Silent Night’ main topic at final council meeting At the final meeting of the 1966/67 Bayfield Council, the Village Durpp was a main topic of discussion. The Reeve point­ ed out that at this time of the year many townships and vil­ lages close their dumps <- con­ sequently trucks fromSeaforth, Goderich Township, Hullet Township, Hay Township, and as far away as Kincardine have been observed using the municipal dump to tip their refuse. Council expressed con­ cern at the cost of keeping the entrance and exit clear and the reeve suggested a joint meet­ ing of Bayfield and Stanley councils early in the New Year to discuss the problem. • that this would in fact, offset the grant made by council, for Centennial purposes, early in 1967, Councillor E.W. A letter was read from Dr. G. L. Morgan Smith, Bayfield Centennial Chairman, praising the work of the various groups participating in local Centen­ nial Year celebrations; he men* tioned specifically the hard work done by organizers. Mrs. R. G. Hunter and Mrs. Elma Metcalf. A cheque for $25.40 representing unused funds was also received from Dr. Smith who thanked council and noted Negotiations with Mr. Garon, owner of property in this area, regarding relocation of an ac­ cess road are proceeding and Councillor Oddleifson said it is hoped an agreement will be reached in the very near future. Reeve McFadden thanked Coun­ cillor Oddleifson for the trem­ endous amount of work which he had done on this and other important matters during the past two years. He also thanked Councillor Leroy Poth and said that he had enjoyed working with a Council which had been at all times co-operative and ded­ icated to serving the village.
