The offering was received by Mrs. Torrance Tabb and '<Mrs. Arnold Craig and dedi­ cated. A duet - “Far in the East”, was sung by Mrs, Gor­ don Chamney and MissKlaske Koopmans. Mrs. Bert Marsh introduced the guest speaker of the after­ noon, Miss Vera Lyon, medical missionary from Kenya, Africa. She gave an inspiring message on the subject, “Why do we (as Christians) do the things we do, why do we celebrate Christmas? She told about her work in Portugal before going to Kenya where she is in charge of training nurses, sixty miles north of Nirobi. She showed interesting pic- Lighted candles, the nativity scene and flowers made a lovely setting .for the Christmas meeting of the Auburn United Church Women held last Wed­ nesday in the Sunday school room of the church,. While the members and the guests were assembling, Mrs, William J. Craig played several Christmas hymns. Mrs. Oliver Anderson took charge of the meeting which was opened by singing - “The First' Noel”, She welcomed all to the meeting and the minutes were accepted as read by the secre­ tary, Mrs. Albert McFarlane. She also gave the financial state­ ment that was prepared by the treasurer, Mrs. Norman Mc­ Dowell. Reports of the various com­ mittees were given by their conveners: flower fund, Mrs. Torrance Tabb; corresponding secretary, Miss Margaret R. Jackson; kitchen and manse, Mrs, Robert Turner; supply, Mrs, William Empey; flower, fund, Mrs, James. Jackson; visiting committee, Mrs. Elliott Lapp; Board of Stewards, Mrs. Arthur Grange; reports, of the tures ot the country and its people, Mrs. Ralph D. Munro thanked Miss Lyon on behalf of the U,C4W. and guests and spoke of her dedicated life in the Mission of the Church, An impressive candle-light­ ing service was led by Mrs. Albert McFarlane, The candle­ lighters were Mrs. Harold Web­ ster, Mrs. GordonNaylor, Mrs. Wilfred Plunkett and Mrs. James Jackson, Everyone held tiny candles which were lit from the large candle representing Jesus Christ, the Light of the World. The meeting was closed by sing­ ing, “Joy to the World” and the benediction. Lunch was ser­ ved by the unit in charge. KNOX WMS The Christmas meeting of the Women’s Missionary Society of Knox Presbyterian Church was held last Thursday at the home of Miss Frances Houston with a good attendance. The president, Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson was in charge and opened the meeting with the Call to Worship followed by prayer. The hymn, “Come Let Us Sing of a Wonderful Love” with Mrs. Donald Haines at the piano. . The minutes were accepted as read by the secretary, Mrs, Alvin Leatherland and Mrs. Donald Haines, the treasurer gave the financial statement. All reports were accepted as given.
