8 Clinton News-Record, Thursday, Nov. 16, 1967 Middleton bride-to-be showered by friends Mrs, Keith Miller and Mrs. Eldon Yeo were po-hostesses at a delightful bridal shower for Miss Nancy Stirling in St. James Church, Middleton, last 'Saturday night. Miss Stirling is the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs^Wfl-. PAUL KERRIGAN takes the worry out of home heating with liam H. Stirling, R, R. 2 Bay- field and he? marriage fo Brian Rowe of Toronto will take place in$t. Jame?’Church, Middleton On Saturday, November 25. Over forty persons attended this shower. Mrs. Alvin Dubot and Mrs, Yeo were in charge pf various contests which were won by Mjrs. Edward Grigg, Mrs. Mary Watson and Mrs. Ainslie, God erich. Following the contests, the bride-r-elect was escorted to a gaily decorated seat of honour festooned with a large wedding bell, streamers and balloons filled with confetti, The popular bride-elect was presented with a lovely assort ment of gifts. Miss Linda Stirling ’ and Mrs. Barbara Schuch assisted her. The gifts were presented by Misses Joan Miller and Janie Harris, Miss Stirling thanked her friends for the “lovely surprise party”. Mrs, Jim Snell was in charge. Thank you notes were read from Mr. and Mrs. Frank Boote (nee Teresa Goldsworthy), and Mrs. Wilfred Penfound. A don. ation was made to the Institute for the Blind. The annual supper for the club members and their families will be held Saturday, November 25 at 7 p.m. Mrs. Fred Vodden presented Mrs. Edith Lovett with a Cen tennial pin on behalf of the ladies club. Mrs. Russell Good and Mrs. Bill Jenkins gave readings. The raffle was won by Mrs. Perc Gibbings. The December meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Nor man Wright on December 6 with exchange of Christmas gifts. The roll call will be “Some thing I would like for Christ, mas.” Those in charge of the pro. gram will be Mrs. Ross Lovett Mrs. Edith Lovett and Mrs/ Jack Murch. Lunch committee is Mrs. Lucy Ellis, Mrs. Clay ton Ellis, and Mrs. Viola Far- quhuar. The Rev. Grant Mills offici ated at the double-ring cere mony. Wedding music was play ed by Gary Black, Clinton, cousin of the bride. Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose a floor length gown of peau de faille enhanced with genuine guipure lace. The fitted bodice was fash, ioned with lily-point sleeves and a portrait necklace edged with lace. The same lace topped the controlled skirt. A detachable chapel train, sweeping from the shoulders, was also edged in lace and a dainty headpiece of matching fabric and petals of lace held a bouffant hand-rolled French illusion veil. She car ried a bouquet of pink delight roses with white tulle. " Matron of honour was Mrs. Karen Tait, sister of the bride, and bridesmaids were Mrs. Joyce Taylor, sister of the bride and Miss Janice Young, the bride’s cousin. All attendants were gowned alike in flooi- length A-line dresses of rose peau de soie with wedding band headdresses to match. They carried supreme half crescent bouquets of white poms and pink tulle. Gordon Tait was groomsman. Guests were ushered by Ken Taylor and Alvin Potter. Receiving guest at the re ception in the church parlour, the bride’s mother wore a two- piece ensemble of blue silk bro cade with black accessories and a corsage of pink delight roses. The groom’s mother wore a gold two-piece knit brocade outfit with brown accessories and a corsage of orange delight roses. For a wedding trip to eastern Ontario and New York State, the bride chose a fushia double knit suit with black accessories and white gardenia corsage. The mortgage on the hall is about paid. The annual meeting of LOL will be held on November 30 with supper at 7 p.m. J. D. Thorndike show the actual judging, the naming of the grand champion and its owner, ceremonies for the winner, and finally, the big auction at which the congest calves are sold to the highest bidder.” Each contestant chooses a calf five months prior to the Fair. Early on the morning of the event the 4-H’ers take over the Fair .stalls where their calves are quartered. There, the con testants busily prepare their entries, washing and drying their calves at least twice, fol lowed by a complete grooming until a high sheen has been worked up on the animal’s body. The first job for the judge is to select champions from the three breeds represented - Shorthorn, Aberdeen Angus, and „ Hereford. The owner of the champion ?teer is then awarded the trophy and carried around the judging ring by his fellow competitors. The grand finale of the con test i? the auction later in th? day. The youngsters are fully prepared and watch as the calyes they pared for are sold to the highest didder, a tradi tional, rule of the contest.
