A Centennial Service will be held in Goshin United Church on Sunday July 23 with the Rev. M. Morrison officiating. Plans for the School Re union' of S.S. No. 6 on July 29 . are | going ahead, many replies a. are| comJ.ng?: in from’ farmer pupils’Who are coming to’the ‘ r eunion, some from as far away as California and Florida. A final meeting of all committees will be held next Monday even ing July 17 in the school at 8:30 p.m. Congratulations to Mrs. Jessie Stelck who celebrated her ninety-second birthday last Sunday. Mrs. Minnie Hayter is at pre. . sent a patient in Clinton Public Hospital. Plans are going ahead on a - - program te provide accounting service for Ontario farmery according to a news release from the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, The service, which will be set iip by the Onrario Feder-. ation would prepare the far* * mers’ income tax returns, do his bookkeeping, and analyze his operations by data processing, plans for the service, which are currently being worked out by the Federation’s executive and staff, were re-affirmed at the June meeting of OF A mem* ■ bers, The plans call for the account ing service tq be set up and co-ordinated by the provincial federation. Among other func- , tions, the provincial group would arrange for data pro. cessing of the information from farms across the province for the operations analysis. The whole package would be offered to any county federation that could sign up enough far mers to make a workable unit. Though there is much plann ing yet to do, currentproposals call for each participating county to hire one bookkeeper fieldman for each 100 — 150 farmers signed up. The fieldman would visit each of the farmers regularly to work on his books, gather the information needed for the farm analysis, and explain what the analysis results meant when they came back. Parts of this program are similar to the system in ef fect in Great Britain, where girls go round and visit each I farm once a month far half a day to bring the paper work up to date. The number of visits the field man would make to each farm is expected to be flexible, de pending on the size and nature of the farm, and the particular needs of the farmer involved. In the original resolution, passed by a members’ meeting two months ago, it was speci fied that the program was to be set up in consultation with .. other public and governmental bodies engaged in such work. Parts of this, service are Z available already to the pro vince’s farmers from a variety of sources, but it is reported that most don’t use them. The farmer can x get his in pome tax figured out - for a price w by any of a number of firms specializing in this, most of which have head quarters in the southwestern part of the province, These firms however do little or noth, tog to set up the farmer’s books so he can use them for any other purpose. Commented a spokesman for the Federation, "many farmers have to turn to their local lawyer to get their tax return drawn up. Most often, they don’t even try to get a professional to do their books,” Huron County Junior Farmers By John Black " The Huron County Junior far- mers met in the agricultural board rooms on June 28, 1967 With president Murray Hoover in charge. Shirley Jacques reported that twelve junior farmer sweaters were on order. Any of the local members in Huron County may still order one from Miss , Jacques or their own president. The county field day was mostly rained out .so it was an unsuccessful event as far as the track and field events were concerned. The Seaforth Club won the trophy for the highest number of points for the day. The exchange visittoWelland county will be from July 14 to 16. There is only a small fee of $2 for any Huron Junior wanting to go. Anyone who is interested please contact Don ald McKercher. John Murphy, the new summer assistant, gave a fairly good fin ancial report. The book col. lection that was started by the county became bogged down be. cause of the problem of dis. posing of the books. It is reported that ten more Century Farm signs have been received and as yet only three , are sold, So if any other farm owners qualify for these signs 4 notify those in charge immed iately as there will be no more ordered. The safe driving course that J.the Juniors, are having is to be run on a county basis toward the end of October at a cost of $10. The County Juniors are also holding a banquet and dance on Saturday November 4, 1967, in the Seaforth Legion hall for their Centennial project. Hot turkey is on the menu. The exchange delegate from New South Wales, Australians to be in Huron county from August 12 to 23. We wish him a happy and entertaining visit.
