Clinton News-Record, 1967-06-15, Page 3From My Window fit! June Brides Meet November Bills .....■ - Shirley Keller Everybody knows that June is traditionally the month for weddings, Guess that’s because when the' suckers and trout start coming to the surface in the streams, meii are in a much- more persuasive frame of mind. Life seems so good in June, ■* and nobody can tell a starry- eyed bride and groom that the long, hot days of summer; the can see; wedlock gets to be as routine as .any other habit. good or bad. Cool, gusty months of fall; and Clinton Wl Topic "Agriculture" Clinton Women’s Institute ■will meet in the board room of the agricultural office on Thursday, June 22 at 2 p.m, Roll call, to be answered by a recent news item pertaining to agriculture.,; Mrs. E., Radford is the con vener on the topic “Agricul ture”. The program is by Mrs. . Pearl Cummings and Mrs, M. Wiltse. The hostesses are Mrs. Nor man Tyndall, Mrs. E. Ellis, Mrs. A. Cudmore and Mrs. Mary . Ross. • - -. the chilly, icy nights of winter ..follow closely behind, For those of us who have been hitched for a long time, marriage has lost most of its, excitement and all of its breath lessness. 'Time w_as when I Heard the Wedding March,- great tears of joy front happy, blissful memories of my own wedding day would cioud my eyes. I still cry, but now weep fpr the days when I was. a care free child before all this grown up type of living began, Actually, I have a good mar-1 riage as marriages go. I used to think my husband was a com? bination of Batman and Elvis Presley. Thirteen years later I’m grateful that he holds a job, beats the children only .when they need’ it, and changes his socks on washdays, As you It’s for this reason that I rarely try to discourage anyone from, matrimony. In fact, I en courage young people of suit able age, to get to a preacher and have the'.knot tied com fortably before they get too old. Since marriage is eventually re duced to a series of compatible habits, .it is easier, if neither husband or wifehas grown too set’ in his or her own ideas. Miss Sandra Westlake ‘ The second, requisite must be love—or something that resem bles Jove. I would assume there aye as many kinds of love and ways for it to strike as there are pebbles PU the beach. That’s the reason no one can say fpr sure “Jove is like this” or ‘dove is like that”, Abput thd only way tp find out is to get mar ried, If that feeling endures and. even grows through lay offs;, whooping ppugh, varicose veins and tjie occasional tipsy return home, it was lpve, So to. all your June bridal cpuples I say barge, ahead. Don’t let anyone sway you from your course toward normal, problem-ridden existence. You have only, one life to live and you have as much • right to make a botch of it else who chooses ahead of a vocation. Just one thing. - About the end of around about the time the first 'fuel bills roll in, you can ex pect the first argument He’ll want to trade up to a car with A top and maybe even a heater. | She’ll want a new fur coat and a trip to Florida during the winter months. In the final analysis, ' neither one will win, out. Something called ‘‘basic' economics” will come to the foreground and from that point on, ■ your marriage ' will be on ‘‘automatic” —r- i.e., c o m mb n, everyday household expenses will automatically eat up all the money you both can make. Don’t be surprised when it happens. It doesn't mean your lovely dreams are shattered and your union as husband and. wife, is threatened. It simply means the honeymoon is over. In spaceman’s language, your love rocket has “staged” properly and. you are now. in orbit with all systems “go” to ride round and round together in the pur suit of money and' sanity “until death do you part”. r —.....- ° ' HURON COUNTY CROP REFORT as. anyone marriage NQvember; Pot Luck Supper For 18 Ladies On Wednesday evening, Jime 7, members of the Madeleine Lane Auxiliary pf ,St. Andrew’s Presbyterian church were in vited tp the summer home pf Mrs. Royce Macaulay fpr their June meeting. .Eighteen mem bers of the Auxiliary were pre sent and the ladies thoroughly enjoyed a delicious pot-luck) supper which was followed by a short business meeting.
