Ontario Adopting New Traffic Signs
Adoption of symbol traffic signs by Ontario has been announced by the Hon. Irwin Haskett, Ontario Minister of Transport.
The new signs will be introduced as old signs need replacing, with the job expected to take five to 10 years. Some examples
are shewn above .(top) in contrast with existing road signs (bottom).

The signs conform to in
ternational standards and use
symbols and illustrations to
convey their message. When
odd signs need replacing, the
new signs: will be used in an
increasing humb'er of cases on
both provincial and municipal
streets and highways.
Gradual transition . to the
new signs is expected to ex
tend over some years.
"The greatest possible uni
formity of traMc signs is
clearly desirable, for the sake of safety as well as conveni-.
fence of motorists,” Mr. Has-
' kett said-
"It liis equally desirable that
'such signs be recognizable at
a glance, and that they be
clear to all drivers,” the Min
ister said. "To meet these
aims, the best signs' are those
•that convey their message by
symbols rather^than words.”

in a series of prayers based on
the subjects dealt with in the
Study Book closing with one by
St. Francis of Assfesi.
A pleasant part of the service
was the singing of old favorite
hymns by a quartette with Mrs.
Win. Cox, Mrs. Ray Scotchmer,
Mrs. Gordon Porter and
McClinchey.

members and the society also
