The battleground for the
"American Dream" is now
being fought in the halls of
congress.
Americans who love their
freedoms would do well to con-
sult their allies who have
histories that go back for cen-
turies. The destruction of
liberty has always happened
when the powers of government
were centered in a single per.
son or group of people.
The British Empire long ago
learned the need for balancing
the powers of government bet-
ween the legislative, judicial
and executive branches, The
American constitution was in-
tended to carry that same ideal
into the United States.
Today, as the American
Congress looks at the Executive
authority in denying legislators
the right to know the truth
about-Watergate, at the-former
President sealed the real
evidence about a President's
assassination, as the judicial
branch comes under fire for op-
posing both congress and
President, the flame of freedom
26, CARD OF THAW

the late Mrs, Margaret Hoy wish to
say a special thank you to Mr. Ar-
chibald and his staff at Huronview
for the special care given to their
Aunt Margaret during the last few
days of sickness and also for
making her stay at Huronview most
enjoyable and entertaining. Also to
those who visited Aunt Margaret
and remembered her at Christmas
and special occasions. Your kind-
ness and thoughtfulness towards
her were deeply appreciated. Sister,
Mrs. Fannie Parr, sister-in-law,
Mrs, Fannie Riley, nieces and

Hospital. Jim Turner.-38p
flickers frantidilly!
It does not matter who is
right in any particular instance.
It does not matter which
political party is in power. It
matters now whether the great
principle of "Separation of
Powers" is maintained.
Its relevance for Christian
people is that the balance-of-
powers built into the American
Constitution is based on the
Christian doctrine of man. The
Christian Word about man is
that he is capable of serving
either "God" or the "Devil".
Man must choose between good
and evil, and "good" nearly
always comes out in terms of
self-interest.
This does not mean people
are evil, it means they will
serve their own interests as
being best for everyone.
Freedom, therefore demands
that the voices of difference,
protest and opposition must be
protected as fiercely as the
voices of support,
When power resides in one
person, freedom resides in
none.
