Following the benediction by Father McMaster, the ladies assem- bled in the Parish Hall to enjoy a delicious pot luck supper. The guest speaker was Rev, Father Spencer, CWL Diocesan Direc- tor of London,. He gave a very informative talk on the ex- cellent work of the league throughout Canada. Mrs. C. Brand made and donated two teddy bears for a draw. The lucky ticket holders were Mrs. A. Carbert and Mrs. T. Brand. "Home for the holidays" - nice thought and nice in reality for some of our young people - among them - David Aiken and Bruce Craig from the Univer- sity of Toronto; Miss Barbara Elliott - School of Medical Technology, Hamilton; Ron Ir- win - Fanshawe College, Lon- don; Miss Cathy Murphy - Huron College London; Miss Heather McAdam - University of Ottawa; and Miss Sheila Phillips from McMaster University, Hamilton. *** Sunday visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Elliott were Mr. and Mrs. Ken Elliott and Mrs. Nellie Powell, the lat- ter's mother of London and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Trewartha, Clinton. This energy saving can go too far!!! M approximately 5:20 p.m, Tuesday afternoon, with the darkness already en- veloping the town, the lights in the News-Record along with a number of stores on the east side of Albert Street were sud- denly extinguished. Knowing exactly where there was a flashlight (or thinking she knew) your writer groped her way to the cupboard where same is kept. Once there everything came to hand except "it", Being a non-smoker - not even a match or lighter to be had. Finally - the depths of the cupboard yielded what felt like a flashlight and with its help we were able to gather up the remainder of the Christmas greeting ads which we had spent the day compiling for this edition. * * * Christmas being the remem- bering season - let us remember with appreciation those who give up some of their Christmas Day so that we are not denied essential services even in the midst of the holiday festivities - the doctors, nurses and staffs who attend at hospitals, those on duty in police departments, telephone operators, others on call for the P.U.C. and fire departments. To these a special thanks - and to each of you our readers A MERRY, MERRY CHRISTMAS. Ontario motorists can now obtain 1974 passenger car and trailer licence plate renewals at 291 issuing offices throughout the Province. Under the new system motorists will not receive new plates but will be provided with a sticker to be attached to the lower right-hand corner of the present rear plate. Before attaching the sticker, the rear plate must he thoroughly cleaned. Wax or oil could prevent the sticker from adhering properly. Motorists are reminded that they will again be required to supply information respecting BY MRS. H. F. BERRY Tuckin:Frath Unit I of the Brucefield United Church UCW held their December meeting on December 11 with a turkey dinner at 7 p,m, followed by the Christmas meeting, In charge were Mrs. Merton Keys and Mrs. Erwin Sillery, The meeting opened with a poem by Mrs. Sillery and a hymn was sung, with Mrs. Rogerson at the piano. Mrs. Keys gave a reading entitled "Christmas at Bethlehem" and also read the scripture. The 'of- fering was taken by Mrs. Keys and dedicated by Mrs, Sillery. A hymn was sung and this part of the meeting closed with prayer by Mrs, Keys. The president, Mrs. Stoll, presided for the business part with the secretary's and the treasurer's reports being given. The roll . call was answered by 28 members and three visitors and the election of of- ficers for 1974 took place. They are: past president, Mrs. E, Stoll; president Mrs, Bert Walters; vice-president Mrs, John Henderson; secretary Mrs. Ervin Sillery; treasurer Mrs. V. Berry; cards and flowers Mrs. J, Broadfoot; program committee Mrs. A, Paterson, Miss M. Swan, Mrs, R. Scott and Mrs. M. Keys. The January meeting will be held during the afternoon, Mrs, Howard Allan was thanked for the lovely dinner which she Was in charge of, and Mrs. Edgar Stoll was also thanked for her very fine leadership as president for the last two years. Mrs. Stoll closed with prayer. The Mite Boxes were collec- ted with a most gratifying result and the exchange of gifts closed a most pleasant evening, which was enjoyed by all. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR liability insurance and are urged to carry their liability in- surance certificate with them when visiting an issuing office. Those applying for renewal by mail are required to send a letter with their permit and fee, listing the name of the in- surance company, the name of the insurance agent, the policy number and the date of expiry of the policy. As in 1973, fees are $23 for a 4-cylinder vehicle; $32 for 6- cylinders; $40 for an 8-cylinder car and $5 for trailers. The multi-year plates must be validated prior to midnight, February 28, 1974.
