CARMEL LADIES
The W.M,S, Christmas
meeting of Carmel Presbyterian
Church ladies was held Mon-
day evening in the Church with
the president, Mrs. Rachel Sch-
walm, presiding and opening
with a Christmas Prayer and
poem entitled .4 '0 Lord You
were Born".
Mrs. Harry; Snell, and Mrs.
Earl Campbell assisted by Mrs.
Ruby Hoggarth gave the
Christmas devotion: During
this devotion, three candles
were lit, one each for faith,
hope and love. Several Christ-
mas hymns were sung and
scriptures were read from Luke
and John.
The roll call with fourteen
members was answered with a
Christmas verse. Reports on
the years work were given by
heads of the committees. Mrs.
Rachel Schwalm presented
Mrs, Myrtle Orr with a gift as
she is leaving the Carmel
Church and will be going to an
Exeter Church in the future,
The nominating report was
given by Mrs. Earl Campbell
and included the new slate of
officers for 1974. They are as

A short business meeting of
the Hensall UCW was held in
he Fellowship Hall Monday

resided.
The roll call was taken in
units, unit 114 members, unit 11
19 members and unit V 12 mem-
bers. Correspondence was read
from the Children's Aid Society,
Five Oaks Christian Workers
Center, Alma College and a let-
ter from Camp Menesetung
thanking for the donation.
A gift was presented to Kay
Mock by Mildred Kyle as a
tangible expression of ap-
preciation for her services as
president during the past year.
The treasurer's report was
given by Doreen Spencer and
annual reports by Helen Scane
for friendship and visitation,
Ann Brock for social functions,
Pearl Erratt for supply and
welfare and Mary Goodwin for
Finance committee.
Donations were given to the
Victor Home for girls, Five
Oaks, Children's Aid Society,
Overseas Relief and Alma
College. It was decided to buy
cord to knit bandages for
Angola. The nominating com-
mittee report was given by Elva
Forrest, It included the new

Following the adjournment
of the business meeting, mem-
bers and guests assembled in
the Church Sanctuary for the
Christmas meeting. The church
was beautifully decorated for
Christmas by Mrs. Robert
Reaburn and Unit II members.
Guests were ladies from
Chiselhurst UCW and Em-
manuel United Church, Zurich.
Helen Goddard presided at the
organ playing the carol "Hark
the Herald Angels Sing".
Unit IV were in charge of the
worship, which opened with
President Kay Mock reading
two verses of "Hark The
Herald Angels Sing" and ex-
tending a welcome to members
and guests, Mrs. James
McAllister chaired the worship
service. Mrs. Pearl Erratt, Mrs.
Nan Britton and Mrs. Rowe
read verses of scripture
followed each time by a Christ-
mas Carol. A playlet "The
Visited Planet" was acted out'
with Mrs. Britton and Mrs.
Erratt acting the part of angels;
they were assisted by Mrs.
Kinghorn, Mrs. Rowe and Mrs.
McAllister,
The offering was taken up by
Mrs. Riley, Mrs. Purdy, Mrs.
Parke and Mrs. Harburn. Kay
Mock read "Christmas and the
Christ Child", keeping Christ
in Christmas and His Love in
our homes. Unit I were in
charge of the program. "It
Came Upon the Midnight
Clear", was sung, followed by
an organ and piano duet by
Mrs. Delbert Geiger and Mrs.
John Goddard, Mrs. Marilyn
Zivkovic of Exeter sang two
lovely solos and Janis Bisback
and Gail Travers sang two
lovely duets. Mrs. Doug Cook
retold the Christmas story.
Mrs. Robert Cook thanked
everyone who took part in the
programme and after the carol
"Joy to the World", the
rnPeting closed with prayer.
Everyone adjourned to the
Fellowship Hall where lunch
was served by members of Unit

The charge apparently
resulted from a November 23
incident. The matter was not
discussed at the regular
meeting of the Clinton Town
Council last week.
The Clinton Centre of Conestoga College had their own choir last Friday night as the
college had a Christmas concert and dance. Here the choir sings some Christmas numbers.

Ontario St. UCW enjoys music
Christmas music played by
Mrs. E. Radford provided the
setting for the meeting of the
Afternoon Unit of Ontario
Street Church on December 4.
Mrs. M. Batkin presided for
the splendid worship service,
consisting of a scripture
reading by Mrs. M. Gibson of
the visit of the angel Gabriel to
Elizabeth and Mary. Mrs. G.
Potter and Mrs. N. Trewartha
Preparations for Christmas
was the main topic at the
December meeting of the
Goderich Township Women's
Institute held in Holmesville
Public School auditorium.
Catherine and Janice Orr
demonstrated the art of candle-
making and Mrs. Don Harris
showed how she makes Christ-
mas centrepieces. Mrs. Bert
McCrea showed how to make
Christmas decorations.
A sing-song of Christmas
carols was held with Mrs.
William Cox playing piano and
singing solo. Mrs. Argyle
Township WI meets
presented an interesting playlet
entitled "The angels point of
view", depicting their im-
pressions as they visited the
earth. Mrs. R. Homuth sang
two beautiful solos "Bring a
torch Janet Isabella" and "Lo
how a rose e'er blooming".
Mrs. L, Lewis gave a very in-
teresting talk of some experien-
ces while on a charge in Regina
and also brought Christmas
Lockhart, resolutions convener,
conducted the program.
The business portion of the
meeting was run by president
Mrs. John Banter. The roll call
was answered by 19 members.
There were five visitors present
and later gifts were exchanged.
The Nominating Committee
was appointed at the meeting.
The members are Mrs. Stanley
Mcllwain, Mrs. Argyle
Lockhart and Mrs. Don Harris.
It was decided that the
January meeting will have a
Scottish theme.

Christmas on December 18.
