There is a wide interest
among' members of the
National Newspaper
Association in the joint NNA-
CCNA Convention 40et for
Toronto next July, according to
Andy McLean, CCNA
President, on his return from
the NNA Convention in Hot
Springs, Arkansas.
Mr. McLean publisher of The
Huron Expositor, Seaforth,
together with Bill Kennedy of
the Durham (Ont.) Chronicle,
who is Canadian chairman of
the convention committee, ex-
tended a formal invitation to
the members of the American
association at the NNA
meeting. At the same time,
greetings were extended on
behalf of Prime Minister Pierre
Elliott Trudeau anq Premier
Wm. Davis of Ontario,
The National Newspaper
Association represents 7000
community newspapers across
the United States. For the first
time, the Association is holding
its convention outside the coun-
try, and the Convention in
Toronto in July 24 - 28 next
year will be the first time
newspaper associations in the
countries have co-operated a
joint gathering, The event at
the new Four Seasons Hotel in
Toronto is expected to attract
2,000 delegates from across
Canada and the United States.
Mr. McLean, who was elec-
ted President of the Canadian
Community Newspapers
Association at the Annual Con-
vention in Calgary, is a former
Member of Parliament, and has
a family history in the com-
munity newspaper business
going back more than 100 years.
He recently returned from at-
tendance at ' federation
meetings in Saskatoon, Sask.
and Moncton, N.B., and sees
1974 as a year of strong growth
for the C.C.N.A. as the
