Burns sparks Colts with 3 goals
Tonight will see a real battle
at the Clinton. Arena as the
league 'leading Belmont Sun.
sets are in town against the un-
defeated Clinton .Mustangs in
'OHA Junior "P" action,
Belmont has a record of nine
wins, one loss, and one tie,
while the 'Stange have a perfect
record of eight wins, no losses
and two ties, Tonight's game
will decide first place. Should
Belmont win, it would give
them a commanding lead over
Clinton.
Meanwhile Clinton ran their
Atom
League
In the first game of the Atom
House League last Saturday at
the Clinton Arena, the Blues
shutout the Bruins 2-0. Tony
(the hustler) Gibbings scored
both goals.
In the second ' game, the
Canadians defeated the Leafs
by a 4-1 score, with Jim
Fleming getting all four
Canadian goals. Paul Stephen-
son scored the Leafs single
tally.
Wednesday night at the Lon-
don, Raceway in the eighth
race, Arctic John owned by .
Larry Dale of Seaforth and
driven by Clarence O'Neil was
second.
In the ninth race, Jay Bee
Blaze owned by Nelson Feagan
of Goderich was second with
Goderich driver Gerry Roebuck
at the reins.
Saturday afternoon at Lon-
don the second race winner was
Miss Direct Baker, owned by
Lorne Tyndall of Clinton, The
mile was in 2:12 and the payoff
was $4.30. The driver was
Frank MacDonald of Clinton.
The sixth race winner was
Douglas Bars owned by Ron
and Geo. Feagan with Gerry
unbeaten skein to 10 games as
they downed the Tavistock
Braves 5-3 last Thursday night
and thumped the Mitchell
Hawks 6.4 last Sunday night.
On Sunday night before a
crowd of over 400 fans, the
Mustangs tramped the Mitchell
Hawks in st game that was
earlier billed in the Seaforth
paper by the Mitchell Hawks
amateur reporter Don
Nicholson as a battle between
the "Seaforth Juniors" and the
Mitchell Hawks,
Nicholson, a Seaforth native,
is one of Mitchell's top scorers
and wrote' in the Seaforth
Expositor on November 15 im-
plying that the Clinton team
would cease to function if it
were not for the large number
of Seaforth boys playing on it,
This is quite incorrect, as
there would still be enough
boys to play, but maybe at not
quite as high a calibre of play
as exists now,
Nicholson also falsely quotes
the Clinton management in his
article almost as if he were ex-
pressing the Mitchell team's
feelings over the Seaforth boys
playing in Clinton instead of in
Mitchell team's feelings over
Roebuck driving. The mile was
in 2:13.3 and the payoff was
$9.20.
In the tenth race, Miss Belle
Bars owned by Fred Fowler of
Londesboro was third with
Frank MacDonald driving,
Dillion Song owned by
George Elliott of Clinton, was
third last Sunday in a $9,200
stake race at Mohawk.
We have just received some
facts on the single shaft sulkies

races; no of wins 194; no. of
seconds 163; no. of thirds 141;
total in the money 498; lifetime
marks lowered 74; lifetime
marks equalled 10; One new
track record 1:58.3.
the Seaforth boys playing in
Clinton instead of in Mitchell,
as was the previous procedure.
Right from the opening face
:off, Mitchell's band of warriors
marched out and did
everything from chop up the
boys to taking cheap shots at
them, with their main victims
being the Lane brothers, who
Mitchell claim to be their own.,
Even former Mustang Tom
Murray of the Hawks displayed
a case of "sow' grapes" by
roughing up a couple of Clinton
players. Murray plays for the
Hawks without a release from
Clinton and thus far, Lambeth
is the only team to protect it.
Before the first period was
over, Rick O'Donnel and Don
Nicholson scored for the Hawks
with Paul Johnson and Dave
McClure countering for the
home team, making it 2-2 going
into the second frame,
In the second period Dave
McClure scored his second
goal of the game at 10:29 with
Nicholson tying it up one
minute later, 'Clinton scored
again to make it 4-3 with the
second period ending on a goal
by Gord Carnochan.
Dave McClure got his hat
trick in the third period when
he scored at 1:33, making it 5-3
for Clinton. At 10:09, Mitchell
closed the gap to 5-4 on a goal
by Kenton Eghoetz.
Brian Lane of Clinton put
the game on ice when he scored
a short handed goal with a lit-
tle over two minutes remaining
to make the final score 6-4 for
Clinton.
The Mustangs will need all
the support they can get as they
face the Belmont Sunsets
tonight at 8:30 and travel to
Belmont on Saturday night for
an 8 p.m. game.

At 3 p.m. every Saturday af-
ternoon, the dressing rooms are
a beehive of activity. Among
the scramble of sticks, skates
and sweaters, there is the
frequently voiced phase of
"we'll win to-day.'"Last Satur-
day was no exception as two
more games got underway with
the Sabres and Leafs taking to
the ice for the first game.
The Sabres took an early
lead and managed to hang on
to win by a score of 4 to 2. Goal
scoring throughout the game
were single efforts by Robert
Knight, Robert Taylor, Chris
Middleton, Paul Taylor, Greg
Skinner, and Mervin Taylor.
The second game was much
different with the Flyers bom-
bing the Canadians; finishing
Fleischauer and
Ken
McIween.

It would appar that all the
sharp shooters are on the one
team, so quite naturally an im-
balance exists. The marksmen
for the Flyers were - John Hart
with five goals, Rick Blake with
three and Jeff Gibbings netting
two. For the Canadians, Mark
Bell and Rick Ducharme each
scored singles after determin-
ded efforts on their parts.
Referees for these games are
in dire need, presently young
untrained boys are the only
ones officiating. In the
future, we hope that some of
