Seaforth, Ont,
—20ff ar211.1. C4:13 1r THE SHADOW BOX The Country Market Place
held at Wesley-Willis Church
on Saturday, November 3 was a
highly successful event,
realizing over $1,000.
Decorated as an authentic
market in a blaze of fall
colours, Adele Jervis ar-
tistically arranged weeds and
flowers throughout the church.
Greeting the enthusiastic
group of morning "marketers"
were the president of the
U.C,W. Mrs. John Nediger and
Mrs. Clifford Britton, wife of
the church minister,
Sewing convener, Mrs. Mary
Murch and novelties convener,
Mrs. Florence Oliver had stit-
ched and sewed all year,
resulting in an impressive array
of luncheon cloths, felt belts,
wall hangings and hand knits,
Pat Sundercock and her ex-
plorers made and sold candy
fudge and popcorn all of which
were immediate sell-outs.
The Silent Auction was an
innovation this year. Bids were
recorded on paper, and the
prices placed for antiques and
novel pieces escalated quickly
near closing time, the prized
possession being awarded to
the top bidder. The Flea
Market, also convened by Mrs.
Frank Fingland was its usual
fun and success.
Coffee and cake were served
during the morning, but the big
added attraction was the noon
luncheon convened by Mrs. Les
000000 Ball. Hot meat pies, salad and
dessert was enjoyed by business
people, patrons of the Market,
and families of U.C.W.'s over
worked mothers. Mrs. Robert
Cole and Mrs. Lloyd Bond con-
vened the dining room.

"If you Drink, Don't Drive,"
has long been the slogan of the
safety minded, The Ontario
Safety League now adds, "If
You Drink, Don't Walk." The
latest Ministry of Transpor-
tation figures reveal that 12.5
percent of the drivers involved
in fatal collisions last year were
impaired. The same percentage
of pedestrians killed in Ontario
had been drinking. Of the 383
pedestrians killed in 1972, 95
had been drinking. . .71 to the
point of impairment.

Many children enjoyed the
"Touch and Take" Christmas
Tree corner. Gifts on the tree,
when touched by a child,
became his to open. Convener
Mrs. Wm. Craig remarked that
she wished she could have
caught the excited expressions
on the children's faces as they
unwrapped their mysterious
present.

The ultimate in
Martial Arts adventure
and excitement!
Since July, 1971, information
on seat belt use has been recor-
ded on motor vehicle collision
reports in Ontario. Accident
reports for 1972 show that only
40 of the 827 drivers killed in
this province were wearing seat
belts, says the Ontario Safety
League. Of the 43,910 drivers
injured in traffic accidents last
year, only 10.5 percent were
known to be wearing seat belts.
SEAT BELTS. .When you
think about it, says the Ontario
Safety League, it's a nice way
to say "I Love You."

The pantry convened by Mrs.
Ken Wood and Mrs. Ed. Johns,
always an early attraction,
featured homemade meat pies,
cabbage rolls, scones and
salads. Also making its way
into the ladies market baskets
were pounds of aged cheddar
cheese and creamy cottage
cheese. Pies and cakes and
homemade breads were in
abundance,
Convener of the Bazaar, Mrs.
Ted Davies was pleased with
the success of the Market Place
and attributed its success to the
devolecb workers who had con-
tributed hours of time, and to
the many generous contributors
without which such an event is
impossible. To everyone in-
volved, sincere appreciation is
extended.
