Clinton Mustangs skated to
their second straight win in the
OHA Junior "D" Western
League by downing the Exeter
Hawks 8-4, On Oct, 19, the
Mustangs defeated. Strathroy
Falcons 9-8 in the home opener,
The Hawks scored first at
3:02 of the first period as John
Mommersteeg scored on a play
set up by Brian Taylor and five
minutes later, made it 2-0 as
Mommersteeg scored his
second goal of the night.
Clinton got back in the game
as Randy Millar scored at
11:08 on a pass from Bill
Crawford. The Mustangs tied it
up at 2-2 at 14:41 as newcomer
Brian Lane scored only to have
Exeter score one minute later
on a power play. Exeter made
it 4-2 at 17:20 to end their
scoring.
Clinton made it 4-3 at 18:37
with Brian Lane scoring his
second goal of the game and
tied the game at 19:08 with
Phil Petrie scoring his first.
In the second period, the

Colts open their season tonight
against the Seaforth Beavers in
an exhibition game that starts
at 8 p.m. at the Community
Centre.
Colts again this year are en-
tered in the W,O.A.A. while the
Beavers are always strong con-
tenders for the O.H.A. crown
each year. Their team is a mix-
ture of sturdy veterans and fast
skating youths, This com-
bination should produce a
tough challenge to the Colts. ,

with 13, and the Boo-Boos and
the Busty Beauties with 12
each. Harriet Tyndall had the
high single of 281, Ruth

of 618 and Mary Davey had the
high average of 220.
In the Londesboro Ladies
League, the Knock Outs have a
commanding lead with 39
points, far ahead of the Dead
Beaters with 22, the Head Hun-
rers with 19 and the Hopefuls
with 18. Harriet Shillinglaw
had the high single of 244, San-
dra Westerhout had the high
and are followed by John's
Joyfish with 14, Tony's Sharks
with 13, Dave's Darters with 11
and Mel's Minnows trail with
8. Madeleine Rathwell had the
Ladies high single of 247 and
Ann Lenting had the high triple
of 595. John Hayman had both
the men's high single of 261 and
the high triple of 714.
Competition is very stiff in
the Crown Junior League with
the Corner Pins, the Alley
Crackers and the Super
Strikers sharing the lead with
15 points each. They are closely
followed by the Pin Spots and
the Headpins with 14 each, the
Aristocats with 13, the
Strikeouts with 12, the Alley
Cats with 11, the Tigers with 10,
the Spares with 9, the Weeping
Willows with 7 and the Rolling
Pins with 4. Kirsten Harrett
had the girls' high single of 190
and the high triple of 296, John
Wood had the boys' high single
of 255 and Rob Knights had
the high triple of 410.
In the Ladies' Afternoon
League, the Pole Cats lead the
way with 19 points followed by
the Alley Cats with 16, the Tom
Cats with 15 and the Bob Cats
with t. Gerry Harris had both
the high single of 310 and the
high triple of 747.
The Bombers and the All
Stars lead the Bayfield
Bowling League with 6 points
each and are followed by the
Dillies and the Miracles with 4
points each. Madelon
Mclllwain swept all the ladies'
honors with the high single of
299, the high triple of 720 and
the high average of 240.Jan
Koene swept all the Men's
honors with the high single of
277, the high triple of 722 and
the high average of 240.
In the Molson's Crown
Mixed League, the Ladies First\
lead the pack with 16 points,
followed by the Hi-Flyers with
12, Ron's Rogues with 11, the
Sideslips and the Dumb Pokes
with 10 each, the Dusters and
Dino's Dinglings with 9 each
and Betty's Bums with 7, Carol
Munroe had the ladies' high
single of 268, Thelma Jones
had the high triple of 648 and
Geiry Harris had the high
average of 216. Cy Murrell had
the men's high single of 274,
Ward Hodgins had the high
triple of 697 and Bruce Collins
had the high average of 232.
The Dumbells are out in
front in the Clinton Mixed
League with 28 points, followed
by the Cloud "9" and the Dead
Beaters with 21 each. Next
come the Odds-N-Ends with 20,
the Lenley Rangers and
Black's Spots with 14 each, the
Corner Pins with 12 and the
Dribblers with II. Val Marriage
had all the ladies honors with
the high single of 272 the high
triple of 736 and the high
average of 215. Pete Black had
the men's high single of 278,
Gary Freeman had the high
triple of 667 and Don Switzer
had the high average of 232.
In the Londesboro Men's
League, the Bravers have a
slim margin With' 26 points,
followed closely by the Otters
with 24, the Foxes with 22 and •
the Wolves 12. Bruce Roy had
both the men's high single of
281 and the high triple of 736,
while Cliff Saundercock had
the high average of 234.
The Ferr-O-Tics are the front
runners in the Wil-Dex bowling
League with 33 points, followed
by the Precisions with 31, the
Diamonds with 25, the Solid
Squares with 23, the Chip-
breakers with 18 and the
Hexagons with 17. Bev Van Nin
Huys had both the ladies' high
single of 241 and the high triple
of 596. John Hoy had the mens
single of 237 and the high triple
of 617 went to Wayne Allen. •

Pleted their schedule for this
season in the 14.D,S,A, Third
Division ilivith a 3-2 victory over
London Carnival at the
weekend.
playing conditions were
atrocious on Sunday with a
high wind and freezing rain
during the game's entirety. The
players appeared to be suf-
fering from extreme cold and
this was indicated in the
calibre of play.
However, Clinton played
very well considering the ad-
verse weather and never really
looked like losing, despite the
fact that they went one goal
down with only a few minutes
gone in the game, due to a
defensive error which left the
Clinton goal wide open.
Clinton kept pressing and
played excellent soccer to a
man and Glen McLachlan tied
the score with 4 low drive into
the Carnival net,
Clinton then took the lead
when Brian Jewitt connected
At the London Raceway
Monday night in the first race,
Prince Sherman owned by Bert
McBride of Zurich was third
with Gerry Roebuck of
Goderich on the bike. In the
second race, Saint Clair Buck
owned by Phil Bisback and
driven by Ron Williamson both
of Seaforth was fourth. In the
eighth race, Single Johnnie,
owned and driven by John
Muir of Seaforth was out of the
money. In the tenth race Lee
Camp owned by Bruce Dupee
and driven by Wayne Dupee
bbth of Clinton was in a three
way tie for fourth.
Wednesday night at London,
Douglas Bars owned by Ron
and Geo. Feagan of Goderich
was the third race winner with
Gerry Roebuck driving. The
mile was in 2:10 and the payoff
$7. The seventh race winner
was Miss Belle Bars owned by
Fred Fowler of Londesboro and
driven by Frank MacDonald of
London. The mile was in 2:07:2
and the payoff was $5.10. In the
same race, Imp Mathers owned
by Charles and John Mathers
of Goderich was second with
John on the bike.
Friday night at London,
Super Roy owned by J. Darling
R. Lindenfield and D. Callcott,
all of Exeter, was the first race
winner with Mike Schaefer on
the bike. The mile was in 2:12'
and the mutuel was $5.40. In
the fourth race Mighty Mikie
owned and driven by William
Caldwell of Clinton was third.
In the sixth race, Seberingville
owned by Ray Mathers and
driven by John Mathers both of
Goderich was fourth.
In the same race, Thoughtful
Louise owned by David Hen-
derson of London was fifth
with Gerry Roebuck on the
fora well taken goal,
Just before' half time, Derwin
Carter in goal was injured and
unable to carry on, Wayne
Fulcher took over the goalten-
ding duties and the teams
finished the first half with the
score 2-1 for Clinton.
There was no 1 /2 time break
due to the weather and the
game went straight into the
second half with Clinton doing
all the work, although Carnival
had a few near misses on the
Clinton goal.
Carnival eventually
equalised when the Clinton
defence failed to clear the ballY
from their goal mouth,
Clinton kept playing good
soccer and the constant
pressure paid off when right
back Don McDaid scored the
winning goal with a low, hard
shot in the back of the net that
Carnival's goalkeeper didn't
even see.
Clinton finished the season
in 5th place with a 4-11-3 won,
lost, tied record for 11 points,
bike.
In the seventh race, Miss
Direct Baker owned by Lorne
Tyndall of Clinton was second
with Frank MacDonald on the
bike. In the ninth race Goldies
Cross, owned and driven by
William Caldwell was third. In
the tenth race Clever Larry
owned by Wm. Laverty and
Ron Williamson was fifth with
Ron on the bike.
Friday at the London Track
in the first race, King's Brother
owned by Thomas McLean and
driven by W. W. McLean both
of Goderich was fifth. In the
sixth race Hylyn Mary owned
by Robert Doig of Seaforth and
driven by Dennis Jewitt was
fifth.
Saturday night at the Lon-
don track, Pierre Harvester
owned by John Smith
Woodham was fourth with
Dennis Jewitt driving. In the
same race, Jimmy ,The Butler
owned by Robert and 1-1, 0.
Jerry of Goderich was fifth with
Robert on the bike.
This weekend marked the
retirement of two fine horses
from the racing front. Both are
retiring to stud. The first one
to mention is J. R. Skipper who
took a personal mark of 1.56:4
this year and will be used by
his owner Russ Miller of Dut-
ton to replace Blaze Pick who
died a few weeks ago.
The second to mention is
Secretariat who ran his last
race at the Woodbine track in
Toronto. Secretariat will long
be remembered for winning the
Triple Crown of thoroughbred
racing this season,
The Dresden Raceway has
announced that they have ap-
plied for Sunday racing. This
track also announced that they
are going to build a new 2,000
seat grandstand to be ready for
next seasons race meet.
Dillion Song, owned by
George Elliot of Clinton made
it three for four in winning the
seventh race at Mohawk last
Saturday. Jerry Duford piloted
the trotter to a 2:07 mile and a
$10 mutuel.

and Starlost with 16, and the
Pinkillers with 15. Deb John-
ston had the ladies' high single
of 315 and the high triple of 711.
Bev Bromley had the men's
high single of 285 and Bob
Atkinson had the high triple of
754,
In the Tuckersmith Mixed
League, Angus Anglers and
Bob's Barracudas are tied for
the lead with 19 points each
Mustangs came roaring out and
scored at the 15 second mark as
this time it was Barry Lane
scoring, Then Dave McClure
made it 7-4 on a pair of goals at
4:52 and 17:03, This young line
picked up eight points with five
goals and three assists.
Clinton finished the scoring
at 2:46 of the third period as
