Tnesday, Oct, 2, at the home of Ann Adams, to introduce prospective members to Beta Sigma Phi, To acquaint the girls with each other, a game of "In- troduction Bingo" was played, followed by "What's the Good Word" and "Let's Make a Deal". Then everyone enjoyed the sorority's version of "Hollywood Squares". The questions and answers related to sorority and what it in- volves. Prizes were awarded to the winners in each of the games. Following, the games the guests had an opportunity to look at the displays of past cultural programs as well as the scrapbook, jewellery and manuals of Beta Sigma Phi. A buffet lunch of casseroles and dessert was served to con- clude the evening. The third meeting of Beta Sigma Phi was held on Oct. 9 at the home of Brenda Rutledge. Four guests were present at this meeting. They were Sandra Westerhout, Marie Middleton, Marilyn Hoy and Linda Bell. The meeting began with the opening ritual, roll call and minutes. The president then read a communication from Inter- national with regard to the renewal tof liability insurance for the Chapter. A motion was Members of the Kinette Club of Clinton entertained their adopted grandparents at a social in the public school on Tuesday evening. Twenty five residents took advantage of the outing and enjoyed an evening of games and refreshments with transportation being provided by the club. The Goderich branch of the Salvation Army visited the home on Wednesday and provided an hour of music and devotion. Mrs. Lila Storey arranged and directed the "Family Night" program this week with violin accompaniment by made by Marj Dobson, secon. ded and carried that the in- surance be renewed for the coming year. Other communications read were a letter from a Toronto Sorority Chapter regarding a convention to be held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto in June 1974, and a letter from the Clinton Kinette Club in- viting our Chapter to attend one of their meetings. The treasurer's report was given followed by the vice- president's report on the Rush Party of Oct. 2, The head of the social com- mittee, Lois Fitzgerald, has signed the contract for the "131uetones" for our March 1974 dance, and has made plans for a social for the Chap- ter members on Oct. 30. Linda Meade and Marj Dob- son have joined the ways and means committee to help the committee chairman Deanna Harloff for tlie 1973-74 year. Deanna reported that plans for the dance are progressing rap- dily and a decoration-commit- tee of Deanna, Vivienne Roy, Marj Dobson, Linda Meade and Lois Fitzgerald will meet Wednesday, Oct. 17 at I p.m. to make decorations, Ann Adams and Sharon Carter have for- med a food committee for the October dance. The president reported that $550 was realized in the can- vass for C.A.R.S. and an ad- ditional $130 from the Clinton area was raised as a result of a Telethon held Oct, 4 over CKNX TV, The publicity chairman, Marj Dobson reported on the adver, tising for the Halloween Dance and mentioned that there are still dance tickets and draw tickets available from the sorority Members or by calling 482-7342, On a motion, seconded and carried, the business meeting was adjourned and then Marj Dobson and Deanna Harloff assisted by Ann Adams gave the cultural program on "Self- Estimate". Quotations and a poem were read followed by questions and a discussion period, To close the meeting, the closing ritual and mizpah were repeated followed by a lunch and social time. W.I. MEETING The family and consumer af- fairs meeting of the Hensall W.I. was held in the Legion Hall Wednesday evening. President Hilda Payne welcomed members, visitors and guests from Zurich, and the, meeting opened with the Mary Stewart Collect and the Ode. The Metric system was discussed and a skit was perfor- med with Mrs. Mabel Shirray as commentator and Helen Tinney, Janis Bisback, Cheryl Bisback, Mrs. Nan Britton and Mrs. Marg Ingram demon- strating pounds changed to grams and kilograms. The minutes of the Septem- ber meeting were read by Mrs. Winnie Skea in absence of secretary Mrs. Grace Peck. Marg Ingram gave a treasurer's report. Everyone stood for a moment of silence in memory of the late Mrs. Maude Hedden, The acting secretary thanked everyone who helped with the recent can- vassing. It was announced that the Historical Society meeting will be held on October 17, at 8 p.m. in Zurich, with the Hess Family to entertain. The Area Conven- tion is on November 7 and 8 at the Banqueteer in London. Mrs. Nellie Riley gave a very interesting report on the Rally which she and other members had attended at Centralia College in October. Hilda thanked everyone who helped with the fair display, Program conveners were Elsie Carlile and Myrtle Orr. Mrs. Orr led in a sing song and read an article on Bible Ecology, and explained what "family and consumer affairs" meant. Sylvia Bell and Wendy Dixon favoured everyone with two accordion and guitar duets. Mrs, Orr introduced Mr. Jim Marshall, a teacher at South Huron District High School who spoke on "Ecology". He explained that the word Ecology means household study household meaning the planet earth) and also showed a film. son officiating. Interment was in Exeter Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Russell, Paul Bossenberry, Pat. Joynt, John Joynt, Doug Bar- nes and Bill Rosser. 4-H MEETING The second meeting of the Hensall 4-H "Globe-Trotters" was held Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Fuss. Each girl named a food used by the early Canadian settlers for the roll call. The Food Guide and early recipes were discussed. Onion soup, French style was made and enjoyed by a number of the girls. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, same place, same time. UNITED CHURCH A good crowd attended Hen- sel' United Church on Sunday morning for the Children's Day Service. The children's choir and the youth choir sang throughout the service, and combined together for the finale. These choirs have been practicing for the past five weeks under the direction of Mrs. Norma Pryde, and were assisted by Mrs, Joyce Pepper, Mrs. Shirley McAllister, Karen McAllister and Brenda Pepper. Special guest for the service was Mr. Ev. Smith, Director of Communications and Steward- ship for the London conference, better known to the children as "Captain Smith", and along with his puppet "Salty" enter- tained. His puppet antics were very much enjoyed by all. This Sunday regular Sunday School classes will resume. Flowers in the Church were in memory of Mrs. Bertie McMurtrie and Daniel Smith. CHISELHURST U.C.W. Chiselhurst U.C.W, held their October meeting Tuesday afternoon at the Church. Mrs. Marg Cole presided for the Thanksgiving meeting and opened with a hymn. Mrs. Russell Brock gave the worship "A grateful heart". It was decided to have a booth at Tom Slavin's sale on October 20. Plans were made for the Bazaar on the 31st of October. Mrs. Boyce had the Bible study "A sheaf of corn". Mrs. Roy MacDonald gave a poem for the programme, "Johnny entertains". President Mrs. Cole reviewed the November meeting and the meeting was closed with the Centennial hymn followed by prayer. 11--CLINTON NEWS-RECORD, THURSDAi, OCTOBER 18, 1973 Sorority welcomes new members Hazel Corbett gave courtesy remarks thanking everyone taking part. Some resolutions, which are to be brought in at the Area Convention were discussed. Mrs. Britton thanked the members for the lovely card that had been sent to her. Hostesses were Marg Ingram and Mrs. Grace Har- pole. LEGION LADIES The October meeting of the Hensall Legion Ladies Auxiliary was held recently at the Pineridge Chalet. The evening started with a dinner to commemorate the Auxiliary's 24th birthday. President Mrs. Mildred Chalmers presided. Members decided to help other organizations to canvass for the blind in Hensall. Sports officer, Mrs. Iva Reid, gave her report of the sports, and an- nounced bowling tournamenfs coming up in Exeter on October 17 and in Goderich on Novem- ber 7. The mystery prize was' won by Mildred Chalmers, atten- dance prize by Donna Allan, and the guessing prize by Vera Smale. A special draw for the evening was won by Mrs. Mona Campbell. OBITUARY Milton Moir Russell passed away at the Queensway Nur- sing Home in Hensall on Mon- day, October 15, 1973 in his 90th year. Beloved husband of the late Mary C. (Dunsford) Russell, and father of Mrs. Don (Isabel) Wilson of Tucson, Arizona; Mrs. Irene Bossenberry of Grand Bend, Mrs. Don (Audrey) Joynt of Hensall and a son Homer of RR 1, Exeter. Predeceased by daughter, Margaret. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. The late Mr. Russell rested at the Bonthron Funeral Chapel in Hensall when funeral service was held Tuesday, October 16, 1973 at 2 p.m. with Rev. George Ander- Nelson Howe of Cromarty. A square dancing group, "The Toe Tapping Tucks,", danced two changes and included Darlene and Debbie Taylor, Doris and Donna Lawson, Bradley Bennewies, Leslie Lawson, Roy Brown, and David Townsend. There were dance numbers by the Maloney sisters, Diane, Joan, Elaine and Gloria; Vicky Bennewies, Venda and Sherry Storey. Musical numbers by Marlene and Valerie Glanville. Mr, Marshall Stewart, a native of Seaforth, thanked the enter- tainers on behalf of the residents. A freak storm hit parts of Huron County last Saturday night and In Hensall and Bayfield, numerous trees were uprooted and limbs scattered on roadways and across hydro and telephone lines. MEETING The regular meeting of the A.C.W. of St. Pauls Church was held at the home of Mrs. W. Scrabuik, The president Mrs. G.A. Anderson opened the meeting with prayer. Final arrangements were made for the bazaar, bake sale and tea to be held on October 27. Roll call was answered with a Bible verse having "rejoice" in it. A cash donation was received from Mrs. Gladys Smith in memory of her mother, The Perth Deanery will be held in St. James Church, Stratford on November 4. The meeting closed with prayer. PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. Ross Berdan of Union, and Miss Iris Alexander London spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Payne and Wayne. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Black- well, Mary, Ida-A`rin and George, and Mrs. Clinton Sweet visited Mrs, Victor Sweet of St. Catharines, and spent some time in Niagara Falls over the weekend. Those attending from Hen-. sail the Huron Presbyterial Fall Rally held in Knox Presbyterian Church in Goderich were Mrs. Florence Hyde, Mrs. Blanch Dougall, Mrs. Grace McEwan, Mrs. Elizabeth Faber, who displayed the Literature Books and Mrs. Rachel Schwalm who gave a report of the National Council which she attended for five days in May at Ewart College in Toronto. Mr, and Mrs. John Schofield of Parkhill visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Schwalm and Mrs. Daisy Ivey and Mrs. Jane Crone. Mr, and Mrs. Desmond Ivey of Sarnia visited with Mrs. Daisy Ivey, who is the former's mother last Thursday.
