Mr. Harry Watkins is a patient in Clinton Hospital having had surgery on Friday October 5th. We wish him a speedy recovery. Mr, and Mrs. Bert Shob- brook visited in Victoria Hospital on Saturday with Mr. Bill Wells. Mrs. Len Caldwell and Mrs. Edyth Lovett. Mr. and Mrs. Lovett and Miss Mabel Harvey also visited his mother, Mrs. Edyth Lovett. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Fothergill' attended the wedding on Oc- tober 6th of his niece Alice Allen to Ken Vanderburgh in Goderich Presbyterian church. Dinner was at Bedford Hotel and the reception at Saltford. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Main of Dearborn Heights spent last week with his sister, Mrs. Myr- tle Fairservice. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Fothergill and family visited on Sunday October 7th with her sister Mr. and Mrs, Jack Simpson, Owen Sound. Miss Anne Fairservice of Stratford spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Myrtle Fairservice. Mr. Will Govier spent Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon McClinchey, Blyth. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lee spent the weekend in Niagara Falls with her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Redford and girls. Miss Jean Keith of Barrie spent the weekend with her niece Mr. and Mrs. Mac Sewers and girls. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Jackson, Brian, Kenneth and Sandra spent the weekend with her parents, Mr, and Mrs. Tom Allen. Attending Centre Huron Regional Rally of U.C.W. at Ontario St. 'Church on Thug= sday evening were Mrs. Tom Duizer, Mrs. Ena Howatt, Mrs. Jessie Jones, Mrs. Laura Saun- dercock, Mrs. B. Shobbrook, Mrs. Margaret Whyte and Mrs, Nick Whyte from Londesboro U.C.W. Visitors on Sunday with Mr. Will Govier were: Mr. and Mrs, Harold Adams, Clinton; Mr. Will Elsey, Clinton; and Mr. Grant Snell, Londesboro. Mr.. Will Govier visited on Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Patterson Blyth. Mrs. Bert Brunsdon returned home on Thursday from Clin- ton Hospital. Their daughter Betty is spending the week with her, Mrs. Ena Howatt and Mrs. B. Shobbrook visited on Wed- nesday with Mr. and Mrs. Neville Forbes. Mrs. Laura Saundercock visited Mrs. M. Austin at Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Stewarts. Mrs, HarrY Lem received a letter from Macin dunking who is working; on cancer research in Africa. The UCW are sending her one of the new Hymnaries. Mrs. Harry Lear introduced Margie Whyte who showed pic- tures and talked of her ex- periences in the Philippines and many Islands. They are noted for their wood carvings and they have no hydro or telephones. She also had a guest with her, Vickie from Manilla, who is attending universITY I Guelph. She spoke a few words. Mrs. Tom Duizer thanked her and presented her with a gift, a donation which Margie will donate to Crossroads. Rev. McDonald closed with prayer, lunch was served and social hour enjoyed. 4—H The Londesboro 4—H Club Kanooky Cooks met Oct. 9 in the hall. All 12 members an- swered the roll call with "A country I would like to visit and why". Preparations were made for the party on Oct. 17 and han- dout sheets on the Orient were taken up. Judy Mason demon- strated Almond cakes. Marjon Anderson demonstrated sweet and sour chicken, and Marjorie Duizer brought Spice Drops. BEREAN UNIT The Berean unit of UCW held their meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. in the church hall. The president, Mrs. Ena Howatt, opened the meeting, A.'"Tfia-nksgiving prayer:' The theme was "The Grateful Heart" was read followed by prayer and a hymn. Scripture was read by Mrs. Joe Shaddick and meditation on the scripture: and prayer was taken by Mrs.. Ena Howatt. Mrs. E. Wood gave the treasurer's report. The general meeting will be held on Satur- day, Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. with Margie Whyte as guest speaker and a pot luck lunch. The minutes of last meeting were read by secretary Mrs. Bert Shobbrook. The roll call was answered by 12 members ,donating tea towels for Camp Menesetung collection and bir2., thday pennies were received. Rev. McDonald had charge of Study period and his theme was "Think and Thank", Each member answered "what we were thankful for"., He read a poem,1 thank Thee followed by prayer, Rev. McDonald used the audio visual tape recorder on scripture of feeding the 5000 and gave a talk on it. He showed pictures of scenery in our own country, of family and church groups and a film on "Saints of India". Pandita Ramabra; who changed the status of women, was the first Hindu Christian Saint. She dies in 1922. Rev. McDonald closed with prayer. Mrs. Margaret Whyte will have the November Study. A lovely lunch was served by Mrs. Laura Lynn and Mrs. Arie Duiger. W.I. The W.I. held their meeting Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. in the hall.President Mrs. Eric Anderson opened meeting with poem "Thanksgiving Day" the opening Ode. Mary Stewart collect and 0 Canada. Roll call was answered by "Do you buy Canadian products, why?" and the minutes of the last meeting were read by secretary Mrs. Margaret Taylor. Correspondence included thank yous from Mrs. Ron Gross, Mrs. Bert Brunsdon and Bruce Heath of C.A.S. for donation and invitation to Carlow W.I. on October 24th which was declined to a later date. The president thanked Mrs, Elma Jewitt and Mrs. Harry Snell who had ,planned the bus trip in September. The president, Mrs. Eric Anderson, is to lay the wreath on Novem- ber 11 at Blyth. A discussion on the price of meals raised beef from $2.75 to $3.00 a plate and turkey $2,25 to $2.50, Clinton and Goderich Township and Seaforth Institutes are to be in- vited to November meeting. Mrs. Gladys Gourley gave the report of W.I. County Rally held at Centralia and reported that the' Huronview Bazaar and Bake sale were a success. Mrs. B. Shobbrook reported on the hall board meeting. The plans for a stove was left over and card parties are to be left to the hall board. The area con- vention will be held in London Banqueteer on November 7th and 8th, and a delegate is to be appointed. Mrs. Don Buchanan in- troduced Miss Jane Pengelly Home Economist for Huron County who showed slides on fashions and costumes, a tour of Historic costumes by McCalls patterns as far back as 1600 through the ages. She was thanked and presented with a gift by Mrs. Tom Allen. , Collection was received and a piano solo given by Mrs. Tom Allen. The motto was given by Mrs. Art Colson "character is like embroidery, it is made stitch by stitch". Readings were given by Mrs. Lloyd Pipe, The meeting closed with the Queen and W.I. Grace. The tables were nicely decorated for Thanksgiving and lunch was served by Mrs. E, Wood, Mrs. Leitch, Mrs. Elma Jewitt and Mrs. L. Flunking. HALL BOARD The Hall Board met on Mon- day night October 8th. Present were Milt Dale, Torn Duizer, Perc Gibbings, Mrs, L. Reid, Mrs. B. Shobbrook and Firs.. Gordon Shobbrook, Discussions were on fans for the stove and winter card parties. Mrs, B, Shobbrook is to take report to the W.I., Next meeting will be October 22nd at 8:130 p.m, PERSONALS
