The Cub- master, Rev. McDonald, con- ducted the meeting orientating the new boys in the Cub program. David Reed and Clair McClure will be assisting with the leadership along with Mrs. Murray Popp as Cub Mother, Rev. McDonald attended a continuing Education Event at Camp Menesetung on Monday with the theme of "the leading edge of Christian Education" Rev. McDonald is chairman of continuing Education for the Huron-Perth Presbytery, 4-H The second meeting of the Londesboro I 4-H was held at the Ldndesboro hall September 17. The president, Donna Reid, opened the meeting with the pledge and roll call was then taken. When the regular business was taken care of, onion soup was prepared. Those taking part were Vaughan Hunking, Barb Car- ter, Mary Lou Vincent and Dianne De Weerd. There were mixed feelings about onion soup and the meeting then closed with the motto. They returned home by Stoney Creek and visiting friends there, Mrs, Jessie Jones spent a couple of days last week with her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Workman. Brussels where they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary and also visited on Sunday with her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Moore and family of Egmondville. Visitors on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Wood were Mr. and Mrs. Art John's (Ruth Mathers), Brad, Scott and Linda of Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Wood and family of Wingham, Mr. Bob Thompson, Jim Neilans and Bert Shobbrook attended the Centennial Banquet held in Wingham on Saturday night 29th for Wingham and Blyth AF and AM lodges. Mr. and Mrs. Colin Paterson of London visited on Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burns. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Good, Mr. Joe Youngblutt, Mrs. Elsie Youngblutt and Mrs. John Lyons attended the funeral of their cousin Louisa Wilfong in Hespeler on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. John Lawrie, Jennifer and Robbie of Kit- chener enjoyed a pleasant four day boat trip on the Trent Canal. Mrs, Elsie Youngblutt spent several days last week visiting her sister Mr. and Mrs, Gordon Curts of Arkona. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thompson visited in Clarksburg on Sun- day, A number of W.I. members from here attended the W.I. Fall Country Rally held on Monday October 1st at Cen- tralia Agriculture College. H. CARL McCLINCHEY H. Carl McClinchey of 17 Erie Street north in Clinton died suddenly September 29 at his residence. He was 69, Mr. McClinchey was born in Grand Bend on June 10, 1904 and farmed for many years in the Hensel! DistrictAn 1955 he retired to Hensall and three years later, he moved to Clin- ton. On August 5, 1950 he married Pearl Pepper (Wray). He was predeceased in 1948 by his first wife Thelma Oswald. Mr. McClinchey was a member of Ontario Street United Church. Besides his wife, he is sur- vived by one son, Nelson of Kit- chener; two daughters, Mrs. Howard (Bernys) Finkbeiner of Zurich and Mrs. Murray (Virginia) Dalton of Seaforth; nine grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. R. (Mrytle) Black- well of London, Mrs. P. (Marie) Dausman of Bristol Indiana, Mrs. J. (Emma) Cox of Toronto, and Mrs. L. (Phyllis) Butler of Clinton; and six brothers, Albert of Ottawa, Bill of London, Jack and George of Clinton, Elmer of Benmiller ,sand Clifford of Camp Borden. Funeral services were held from the Ball Funeral home on October 2, 1973 with Rev, L. Lewis in charge. Burial was in Emmanuel Church Cemetery in Zurich. Pallbearers were grandsons Carl and Ray Finkbeiner of Zurich and Roy and Ron Dalton of Seaforth, Clayton Mizen of Goderich and nephew Larry McClinchey of Clinton. Flowerbearers were Rick Woolrich of Kitchener and Larry Dalton of Seaforth, ELGIN PORTER J.W. Elgin Porter of Varna was killed on Sunday Septem- ber 30 after a ear accident at Highway 96 and Huron County Road 10, about 10 miles east of Wingham. He was 65, Mr. Porter was born on April 26, 1908 in Goderich Township, a son of the late Richard and Hannah Porter. He attended school in Goderich and Goderich Township. He farmed in Stanley Township and ran a farm supply business in Varna. He married Sarah Reid in Stratford on April 4, 1931. She predeceased him in 1952. Mr. Porter was a member of St. Andrew's United Church in Bayfield, where he was an elder. He was also a member of the Bayfield Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge No. 84. He is survived by one son, Gordon of Bayfield, four daughters, Mrs, Raymond (Kathleen) Siertsema of Bayfield, Mrs; Garnet (Margaret) Wright of R.R. 1, Londesboro, and Mrs. Ronald (Marion) Cornish of Exeter; one sister, Mrs. David (Marion) Davidson of Windsor; and four brothers, Lorne of Exeter, Ar- nold of Goderich, and William and Richard, both of Goderich Township. Funeral services were held on October 3, 1973 from the Beattie Funeral Home with Rev. J. Reddoch in charge. In- terment was in Bayfield cemetery. Pallbearers were LeRoy Poth, Lloyd Makins, Ray Cox, John Campbell, John Watson, and Ross Merrill. EDITH A. BEATTY Edith A. Beatty of Varna passed away at Clinton Public Hospital on September 23, 1973. Miss Beatty was a daughter of the late Lancelot and Elizabeth Beatty. She was the librarian at Varna and the secretary-treasurer of the Varna Anglican Church. She was also a member of Trinity Anglican Church in Bayfield. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Emily Latham and Mrs. Gladys Sparks, both of London, Ontario. She was predeceased by one' brother George. Funeral services were held from the Beattie Funeral Home in Clinton on September 25 with Rev. G. Youmatoff in charge. Interment was in Bayfield Cemetery* Pallbearers were William McAsh, William Taylor, Robin Thompson, Orville Workman, George Beatty and Gordon Porter.
