The choir anthem was "Somebody's knocking at your door" and Rev. McDonald's children's theme was "One day at a time," His message was "Life is too short, to be little." AIMWELL UNIT The Ainnwell unit of the U.C.W. met September 17 at the home of Fern McClure. The president, Mary Peel gave the call to worship with a hymn. The scripture was read and meditation followed. Mary Peel led in prayer. A hymn closed the worship. Helen Lawson moved a vote pf thanks to those who planned the prime. It was seconded by Edyth Beacom. A discussion of the junior congregation was held, Joan Whyte and Florence Cartwright offered to buy supplies and Bibles for graduation. The Fall Rally is October 11 at 7 p.m. in Ontario St. United Church, Clinton, A date for the Thankoffering was dicussed. The committee to look after the pot luck lunch are Elma Jewitt, Ella Jewitt and Betty HuIley. A thank you was read from Lisa Duizer. Edyth Beacom and Mary Peel presented the program. They held a question and answer period on India. Edyth showed a film on London and Mary brought the write up of Mrs. Davidson of Brucefield to everyone's attention. Edyth played excerpts of a record "Pass it on" and "Family of Man." Lunch was served by Addie flunking and Marjorie Duizer, PERSONALS Miss Edyth Beacom spent last week attending the O.E.S. Grand Chapter sessions in Win- dsor. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hooper and Mrs. Edna Holmes of Dresden visited on Sunday with the latter's sister, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Durnin. Mr. Mervyn Lobb, R.R. 2, Clinton, also visited Mr. and Mrs. Durnin on Sunday, Mr. and Mrs, Gordon McGregor moved to Clinton last week having purchased the home of late Mr, and Mrs, Bert Lobb. The McGregors have sold their farm to their on, Mr. and Mrs, Donald McGregor. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Shobbroelt Darrell and Diana were his brother, Mr, and Mrs. Dennis Shobbroely Kim and Cindy of Galt. Mr, and Mrs, J. Claire Vin- cent, Mr. and Mrs, Dave An- derson, Mr, and Mrs. Jim Jamieson and Mrs. Alma Tyn- dall were guests at the wedding of Frank Yardella and Nancy Buchanan in Toronto on Satur- day. Nancy is the daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Don Buchanan, R.R. 1, Londesboro. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Radford of Niagara Falls spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Radford and attended the sale of their mother Mrs. Alice Radford's estate in Blyth on Saturday. Visitors Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Murray Lyon Bradley and Deana were Mr. and Mrs. Alf. Bell and Heather of Prince Rupert B.C„ Mr. Stanley Lyon of Blyth, Mrs. Edna Holmes, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hooper of Dresden, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lyon and family, Mrs. Laura Lyon and Miss Edyth Beacom. Mr. Jeff Shaddick of Moorefield and Miss Lloy Shaddick of Kitchener spent the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shaddick. A number from here atten- ded the centennial church ser- vice for Blyth and Wingham Masonic Lodges held in Blyth United Church when Rev. Harold Snell was guest speaker. A social hour was spent with Blyth Order of Eastern Star serving lunch, Holmesville 4H meets HOLMESVILLE IIi The Holmesville III 4-H club held their second meeting on Monday, September 24 at the Holmesville Public School. The theme of the meeting was Firench cooking, Sherry Hodgins opened the meeting with the pledge and followed by the roll call being answered by all seven mem- bers. We then chose 7C's for our club name. The name por- trays places all over the world and the seven members. The minutes were read by Helen Kaastra and Marie Bottles discussed our handout, sheets, Mrs. Yea demonstrated Tourtiere with Jacke Brand and Shirley Heykoop as her assistants. Tourtiere, made by the French, was made with a variety of pigeons, where it derived its name. After the meeting three clubs met to sample each other's delicious dishes. These dishes consisted of Onion Soup and Croutons, Tourtiere and Grand,peres for desert. -Terri Van Dongen Business and Professional Directory The all-Ontario Juvenile Baseball Champs of Clinton were honored Monday night when the Clinton Legion held a banquet for them. The local branch sponsored the team this year. The town will honor the boys at a later date. ROBERT (SYLVIA) BAKER Mrs. Robert (Sylvia) Baker of RR 2, Goderich passed away suddenly in Heerenveen, Holland on September 14, 1973, She was 59, Mrs. Baker was born the for- mer Sylvia Schurer to the late Clarence and Freda Schurer on March 1, 1914 in Tjaliebred, Holland, In 1936, she married Robert Baker in Joure, Holland and in 1951 the couple immigrated to Canada and settled in Wood- bridge Ontailo. They moved to Glen Williams Ontario and then to the Clinton area. Mr, Baker survives her, Mrs, Baker was a member of the Clinton and District Christian Reformed Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and the choir. Besides her husband, she is survived by five sons, Wayne, Clarence and John of Georgetown. Ontario, James at home and Robert of Limehouse,, Ontario: four daughters, Mrs. Albert (Freda) Snippe of Limehouse, Ontario, Mrs. Ren- sel (Clare) Meyer of Guelph, Mrs, John (Agnes) Bylsma of Kingston, and Cathy at home; three sisters, Mrs. Jake (Cathrina) Wever of Belleville, Suz (Lamkje) DeJong of Schurer, Holland, Mrs. Jan (Griet) Vis of Holland; and one brother Johannes Schurer of Holland. Funeral services were held at the Clinton and District Christian Reformed Church on September 21, 1973 with Rev. A. Beukemia in charge. Burial was in Clinton Cemetery. SEPTEMBER 27, .1974 The Clinton Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star held its last meeting for 72-73 officers on Sept. 6. Election of officers for the ensuing year was held and Mrs. Laurie Slade was elected. Worthy Motion and Mr. Willard Aiken, Worthy Patron, Installation for this year will be held in October. Also, at this meeting the Chapter made several con- tributions to local appeals. Some of these were Huronview "Redis for Residents", Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Institute for the Blind (local branch), Estarl and all other appeals throughout the year. The present Matron and Patron, Mr, and Mrs. Don Kay, chose the Cardiac and Intensive Care Unit at Clinton Public Hospital for their project. A cheque for $500.00 dollars was presented to Mr. Orval Englestad to be used to help improve this Unit. Grand Chapter which has just concluded in Windsor was held at the Cleary Auditorium with a registration of ap- proximately 2500 members. Members from Clinton who at- tended in whole or in part were Mr. and Mrs. Don Kay W.M. and W.P., Mrs. Lawrie Slade A.M. and official delegate, Willard Aiken A.P., Mrs. Wiliard Aiken, sec., Mrs. Bert Garrett, P.D.D.G.M., Mrs. Win. Wells, P.M., Mrs. Don Watson, P.M., Mrs. Wm, Norman, P.M. and Mrs. Alex Haddy. The Worthy Grand Matron, Mrs. Oliver Thrasher of Amherstberg chose for her project the Burns Institute of the Shriners' Hospital for Crip- pled Children. A presentation of $6,000 was made at one of the sessions to Mr, Jack Saren- son of Mitchell a Past Poten- tate in the Shrine. Eastern Star has an internal project called Estarl (Eastern Star Training in Religious Leadership) for young men and women of any denomination. This year during Grand Chapter Sessions, 94 scholarships of $300 each were presented to the grateful recipients.
