Colts win HaP Title
Last Thursday, September
20, the Central Huron Redmen
travelled to Mitchell for an
exhibition tournament with
other area schools,
The boys came home with
five wins and two losses, not
losing to the same team twice.
The first match was with West
Elgin- the seniors winning the
first game and losing the
second. Stratford Nerthwestern
next provided the boys with
two more wins. Somewhat un-
steady play caused Mitchell to
defeat the Redmen in the first
game of the next match but
Clinton bounced back and won
the second by a close margin, F.
E. Madill from Wingham was
the last game for the local boys
giving Clinton an easy victory.
Other schools present for the
tourney were St. Marys and
Saunders (London) - these
teams were not played by Clin-
ton because of insufficient time.
This year's roster includes:
Bob Riehl, Rod Campbell,
Brian Jewitt, Don Reid, Keith
Crittenden, Don MacDonald,
Paul Johnson, Ray Mair, Jim
Amsing, Dean Ryan and Geoff
Gibb.

At .Therndale last Tuesday
night the Clinton ' Colts
defeated the Thorndale Angels
by a score of 6.1 behind the ex-
cellent pitching of Danny
Colquhoun, Danny struck out 11
batters, walked five in gaining
his second victory in as many
starts in a Colt uniform this
season.
In gaining the victory, the
Colts put out the Angels in two
straight games to win the
Huron-Perth championship. As
in the first game of the finals,
the Colts did it the hard way by
playing without the regular ser-
vice of three leading hitters,
Hans Leppington, Larry
Pickett, and Stew Mustard,
The Colts, who had earlier
lost out in the first round of the
O.B.A. series against the
Angels jumped on the Angels in
the first inning for a run to take
a 1-0 lead. Danny Colquhoun
hit the very first pitch of the
game for a homerun over the
right field fence.
The Colts increased their
lead to 2.0 in the third inning.
With one out, Bob Livermore
walked. Danny Colquhoun then
was safe on an error putting
runners on first and second.
Butch Fleet singled filling the
bases. Bob Livermore was for-
ced at the plate on a grounder
by Bartliff. Then Doc Miller
singled in Dan Colquhoun for
the second Colt run,

sixth inning as a walk and a

big insurance runs in the ninth
to put the game out of reach
and to make the final score 6-1.
Paul Bartliff led off the ninth

sacrificed Paul to second base.
Greg Burns walked and Rick
Frendin was safe on an error
filling the bases with one out.

of the year.
Last week, the Redmen
opened the regular season on a
winning note when they
travelled to St. Marys and
trounced their hosts by a con-
vincing 35-0 score.
Clinton's scoring was started
by the defense when Mike An-
stett intercepted a pass and ran
back 40 yards for a touchdown,
Then quarterback Gerry Lobb
scored three consecutive touch-
downs, with Dan Colquhoun
scoring the final touchdown in
the fading minutes of the game
on a 98 yeard runback,
Gerry Lobb also accounted
for a pair of two point conver-
sions and Bill Cantelon added
a single point with his convert.

a three run double with a drive
to right centre to put the icing
on the cake for the Colts.
The Colts were only able to
collect five hits, but that waa
enough as the hits came in key
situations, On the other hand,
the Angels could only muster
four hits off of the well-pitched
game by Colquhoun, who in-
cidentally helped pitch the
juveniles this year to the
0.13.A. championship,
The Colts would like to
thank their fans for the ex-
cellent support they received
this year, both at home and
away. Who knows maybe next
year the Colts will again gain
their winning O,B.A. form,
with an afternoon of racing ex-
citement and thrills on the
challenging Bully Gully course.
