The first match was with West Elgin- the seniors winning the first game and losing the second. Stratford Nerthwestern next provided the boys with two more wins. Somewhat un- steady play caused Mitchell to defeat the Redmen in the first game of the next match but Clinton bounced back and won the second by a close margin, F. E. Madill from Wingham was the last game for the local boys giving Clinton an easy victory. Other schools present for the tourney were St. Marys and Saunders (London) - these teams were not played by Clin- ton because of insufficient time. This year's roster includes: Bob Riehl, Rod Campbell, Brian Jewitt, Don Reid, Keith Crittenden, Don MacDonald, Paul Johnson, Ray Mair, Jim Amsing, Dean Ryan and Geoff Gibb. CUSS volleyball ors show strength At .Therndale last Tuesday night the Clinton ' Colts defeated the Thorndale Angels by a score of 6.1 behind the ex- cellent pitching of Danny Colquhoun, Danny struck out 11 batters, walked five in gaining his second victory in as many starts in a Colt uniform this season. In gaining the victory, the Colts put out the Angels in two straight games to win the Huron-Perth championship. As in the first game of the finals, the Colts did it the hard way by playing without the regular ser- vice of three leading hitters, Hans Leppington, Larry Pickett, and Stew Mustard, The Colts, who had earlier lost out in the first round of the O.B.A. series against the Angels jumped on the Angels in the first inning for a run to take a 1-0 lead. Danny Colquhoun hit the very first pitch of the game for a homerun over the right field fence. The Colts increased their lead to 2.0 in the third inning. With one out, Bob Livermore walked. Danny Colquhoun then was safe on an error putting runners on first and second. Butch Fleet singled filling the bases. Bob Livermore was for- ced at the plate on a grounder by Bartliff. Then Doc Miller singled in Dan Colquhoun for the second Colt run, Thorndale narrowed the score to 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning as a walk and a The Central Huron Senior Redmen started their football season off with an exibition game recently with the Medway Cowboys and overwhelmed double produced their only run Af the game. The Colts exploded for four big insurance runs in the ninth to put the game out of reach and to make the final score 6-1. Paul Bartliff led off the ninth with a walk. Brad Dutot sacrificed Paul to second base. Greg Burns walked and Rick Frendin was safe on an error filling the bases with one out. Bob Livermore grounded out to second base as Paul Bartliff raced home from third base with the third run, Danny Colquhoun was then hit by a pitch filling the bases again. The event, the first C.M,A, Sanc- tioned Moto in south western Ontario, with 232 cyclists motoring for all their worth, provided the 1100 spectators The Clinton Fish and Game Bantams were eliminated from the semi-final 'round of the OBA championships last Wed- nesday September 19 when them 39-0 for their first victory of the year. Last week, the Redmen opened the regular season on a winning note when they travelled to St. Marys and trounced their hosts by a con- vincing 35-0 score. Clinton's scoring was started by the defense when Mike An- stett intercepted a pass and ran back 40 yards for a touchdown, Then quarterback Gerry Lobb scored three consecutive touch- downs, with Dan Colquhoun scoring the final touchdown in the fading minutes of the game on a 98 yeard runback, Gerry Lobb also accounted for a pair of two point conver- sions and Bill Cantelon added a single point with his convert. The Redmen play host to Stratford North-Western today Thursday at 2 p.m. at the CHSS playing field. Stratford nipped CHSS last year by a 1.0 score. a three run double with a drive to right centre to put the icing on the cake for the Colts. The Colts were only able to collect five hits, but that waa enough as the hits came in key situations, On the other hand, the Angels could only muster four hits off of the well-pitched game by Colquhoun, who in- cidentally helped pitch the juveniles this year to the 0.13.A. championship, The Colts would like to thank their fans for the ex- cellent support they received this year, both at home and away. Who knows maybe next year the Colts will again gain their winning O,B.A. form, with an afternoon of racing ex- citement and thrills on the challenging Bully Gully course. With C.M.A. official, Bob Kelly, from Hamilton as referee and officials from the Huron Cycle Ass'n as track Marshalls the event ran off with a touch of expertise. they were downed by Thamesville by a 9-7 score, Thamesville took the series two games to none to advance to the finals against Hagersville. Senior Redmen win Moto-cross proves popular Thamesville ousts Bantams At the Clinton Raceway last Sunday afternoon in the second race, Janet Express was the winner for owner driver William German. The mile was in 2:11,4 and the payoff was $5.00. Second was Timely Pat owned by Walter and May Pep- per with Dennis Jewitt driving. In the third race, Sammy Seaway owned and driven by Mac Sewers was fifth, In the fourth race Jet Com- mand owned by Albert Arndt was third with Bruce Volland on the bike. Shadow Bars owned by Fred Fowler and driven by Frank MacDonald was the fifth race winner. The time was 2:09.4 and the payoff was $5.50. Second was Miss Direct Baker owned by Lorne Tyndall and driven by John Duckworth.
