chief topic of discussion as over
800 women teachers from all
over Ontario attended the An-
nual Meeting of the Federation
of Women Teachers'
Associations of Ontario, August
14 to 17 at the Royal York
Hotel, Toronto, The Federation
represents the province's
33,000 elementary public
school women teachers. Provin-
cial President Lenore Graham
of Windsor chaired some
sessions and Margaret Flynd-
man, Q,C., of Toronto presided
Winnie Armstrong left this
week for George Brown
College in Toronto, where she
is enrolled as a first year
student In a social service
program. Miss Armstrong, a
grade 13 graduate of Central
Huron Secondary School in
Clinton, Is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. William D. Arm-
strong of RR 3, Bayfield.
The A.C.W. of St. James,
Middleton will begin its Fall
schedule of meetings on Thur-
sday September 13 at 8 p.m. at
Jervis Bay, Paradise Vista, the
summer home of Mr. and Mrs.
Wilfrid Jervis of Clinton. Their
daughter, Mrs. Don Middleton
is president of the St. James,
A.G.W. and the members ap-
preciate this kind invitation,

Mullens of Hamilton spent last
week with their grandmother,
Mrs. Fred Middleton and
returned home on Sunday with
their parents, Dr. and Mrs, E.J.
Mullens of Hamilton.
Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Mid-
dleton visited on Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Archibald
of Seaforfh.
Inadvertently ammitted in
last week's account of "Among
those present at the St. James
outdoor church service and pic-
nic at Stewart Middleton's
park, was the name of Mrs.
John Graham of Wallacetown
who motored up by herself to
attend this event. Mrs.
Graham's husband, the late
Rev. John Graham, was the
Rector of the Hayfield, Mid-
dleton and Varna Parish for six
years. Mrs. Graham found
Many old friends among the

The only adverse effect of the
recent most successful picnic, as
far as we know, has been on the
ecology of the park end some of
its denizens, We refer to the

dhog, who suddenly found their
exits and entrances, front, back
and side doors. very firmly
filled in with earth, gravel and
stones the day before the picnic.
After all the Stewart host

falling unwarily into these sud-
den gaping holes in the grass.
At time of writing, they were
still "holed up" literally.
Perhaps they've decided to
hibernate early in the cool of
the den. Let's hope they make
it out of there in time to
forecast next February •second!

Well-known educator and
writer Sybil Shack of Winnipeg,
author of the recently
Published "The Two-Thirds
Minority; Women in Canadian
Education," spoke to the
delegates about her book and
her personal experiences as a
woman teacher and school
Principal, Delegates also
discussed the Ontario govern-
ment's green paper, Equal Op-
portunity for Women, in On-
tario and the Federation's
response to it. The Federation.
has told the government that
they want action .now and do
not want to wait for rarther
studies of matters - (such as
equal pay for work of equal
value) that have already been
adequately studied. The
Federation has offered to assist
the ,government in providing
"consciousness-raising"
sessions for teachers and school
administrators on the subject of
the promotion of women in
