The Clinton Juveniles won
the first game of the 0,B.A.
semi-finals as they beat
Corunna 5-1 last Sunday after-
noon in Corunna.

Officials of the Clinton Lawn
Bowling Club said they were
extremely pleased with the tur-
nout at the Second Annual
Bankers Tournament held at
the Clinton Greens last Satur-
day.
Described as the best of the
season, Milfred Durst said all
greens were filled with 16
twoperson teams.
First prize of two silver trays
donated by the Clinton branch
of the Royal Bank went to the
team of Cliff Brown and Mileia
Marshall of St. Marys, while
second prize of 12 silver dollars
donated by the Clinton branch
of the Bank of Montreal went

In third division play on the
weekend, the Clinton Soccer
team travelled to Strathroy
and defeated the home team by
a score of 2-1.
Clinton collected two more
points with their second win in
three starts, playing with a
makeshift team when six of the
regular team were unable to
play through holidays injury
and other sporting committ-
ments.
The team started slowly
allowing Strathroy clear shots
on goal which, fortunately for
Clinton, were off the target.
Clinton settled down and a
header by Don Armstrong hit
the post and bounced out. This
rallied the Clinton team and
within a few minutes, they were
a goal up when Glen
McLachlan sent a ball over
from the right wing and Wayne
Fulcher connected with his
head, sending the ball whistling
past the goalkeeper to make the
score 2-0.
lead in the first inning as Vic-
tor Kennedy walked and came
home on a passed ball. Steve
Cook came home with dazzling
head first slide off hit from
Paul Fawcett. Dave also
crossed the plate off a passed
ball. The green machine poun-

The •Clinton Community
Credit Union third prize of 10
silver dollars went to Mr. and
Mrs. Mel Brady of Goderich,
while the fourth prize of eight
silver dollars donated by the
Clinton Lawn Bowling Club
went to Mr. and Mrs.. Bert
Garrett of Clinton. Fifth prize
of six silver dollars given by
the Clinton Club was won by
Arnold Fisher and Edith
Argyle'of Goderich.
The Clinton Club will be
hosting the Harvest Tour-
nament on September 9 and
Mr. Durst also stressed that
anyone is welcome, whether
they are young or old, to bowl
at the Clinton lanes anytime.
Both teams had many shots
on goal all off the target or
saved by the goalies and the
teams went in at half-time with
the score still 2-0 for Clinton
when with a little more luck
Strathroy could have had it
tied up.
The second half saw Clinton
rapidly tiring playing with only
11 men and no substitutes.
Strathroy changed players
frequently and kept up a relen-
tless pressure on the Clinton
defence. The defence led by
Stuart Lyons held out and Der-
win Carter in goal had many
fine saves.
A goal for Strathroy had to
come and they scored finally
five minutes from time, but
Clinton held on' and :the final
whistle went with the score 2-1
for Clinton.
The game was marred by a
few beligerent spectators (there
were over 100 people out wat-
ching the game. N.B. Clinton
fans!!) and one incident in par-
ced on Corunna that inning get-
ting three up three down as
Mike Anstett caught a man
stealing second,
Corunna got their single
run in the• third inning off a
single and a hard hit triple.
The Juveniles got their two
final runs in the fifth inning off
hits from Dan Colquhoun,
Dave Fawcet, and Don
MacDonald,
In the ninth innini g,Greg
Bitter made a fantastic play
when a ball was hit into deep
left field He threw a runner out
at home with a perfect throw
into Mike Anstett's glove.
Dan Colquhoun pitched a
great game for Clinton giving
up only three hits and striking
out 12 batters.
The Juveniles hitting was
back up as they got 12 off the
Corunna pitchers.
The Juveniles, still un-
defeated in 15 games play
again tonight in an effort to put
out Corunna in this best two
out of three semi-final. Come
out and watch. Game time 8
p.m.
ticular spoiled the afternoon
when a Strathroy fan rushed
onto the field and assaulted the
referee cutting his ear and
kicking him.
Clinton play again on Sep-
tember 8th against St. Thomas
at Clinton Community Park.
Come out and support your
team.
In Minor Soccer play at the
weekend Clinton Atoms were
defeated 6-0 by Seaforth 'B'.
The Mosquito 'A' team
defeated Goderich 'B' by 1 goal
to 0.
Clinton Pee-Wees won over
Grand Bend by a score of 4-1.
Paul Galachuik scored three of
the goals and Steve Rateau the
other for Clinton.
The Pee-Wees have com-
pleted their schedule and en-
ded up third behind Goderich
and Seaforth. They, however
had the distinction of being the
top goal scoring team in the
league.
Last Wednesday night, the
Clinton Colts erupted for three
runs in the bottom of the eighth
inning to overcome a 8-7 deficit
and defeat Arva by a score of
10-8 to advance to the Huron-
Perth finals against the Thorn-
dale Angels who had earlier
put out the Colts in the O.B.A.
round. Dates of this series
have not been set,
Errors which have cost the
Colts many important games
this season, again almost cost
the Colts a chance of earning.
the Huron-Perth championship,
Leading by a score of 7-1 in the
top of the eighth inning; Arva
rallied for 7 unearned runs to
take and 8-7 lead. On the
seven run eighth inning, Arva
only managed three hits, but
six Colt errors kept their surge
going.
But the Colts, as they have
done in the past, rallied for
three runs of their own to
regain the lead. Don Bartliff
led off the eighth inning for the
Colts with a walk. Rick
Fremlin followed with a single
and Greg Burns walked loading
the bases with nobody out.
Brad Dutot who had hit two
previous doubles, lined another
double down into the left field
corner scoring two runs and
putting the Colts one run up.
One out later Butch Fleet
singled knocking in the final
run of the game.
Brad Dutot, in relief of Larry
Pickett, picked up the win:
Brad's record for the season
now stands at six runs and two
losses.
Brad also led all Clinton hit-
ters at the plate as he collected
three doubles. Stu Mustard
rapped out two singles. Don
Bartliff smashed a triple and
Larry Pickett, Butch Fleet, Doc
Miller and Rick Fremlin all
contributed one single each.
The Colts are hoping that the
H-P finals with Thorndale will
get started next week some
time.
As soon as the management
receive notice of the dates of
the games, posters will be put
up. So, check the posters for
further notices.
The Clinton Fish and Game
Bantams took the opening
game of their OBA series with
Waterdown when they scored a
1312 come from behind win in
11 innings last Saturday. It
gives the Bantams a one game
lead in their best of three
series.
Clinton scored three runs in
the eleventh inning to take the
victory after coming back from
a 10-2 deficit in the seventh in-
ning.
