and Mr, and Mrs. J.O. Hughes
have returned from a trip to
Moosonee on the Moose River,
12 miles from James say, They
travelled to Cochrane by car,
then took the "The Polar Bear
Express", for one hundred and
eighty-six miles to Moosonee.
There were about 1,000 people
aboard and this is the only ac-,
ceasible way of travel since
1932 after the completion of the
Ontario Northland Railway.
The train stopped at the Otter
Rapids to view the great On-
tario Hydro Dam.
They walked a half mile from
he station at Moosonee to the
aterfront on the Moose River,
here they took a motored
anoe operated by the Indians

At the Old Time Country
Fair on Saturday, the Hayfield
Historical Society will have a
display depicting the fishing in,
duf;try in Bayfield. Several old
pieces of equipment once used
by the fishermen of Bayfield
will be on display and Mrs.
John Sturgeon, who is 80-years-
old, will demonstrate the art of
"stringing nets" periodically
during the afternoon.
Mrs, George Kalanzis has
recently returned to her Village
residence from a holiday in
North Ca'rolina,
Mrs. Walter Erickson, An-
drew, Luanne and Lydia spent
Thursday to Sunday with her
sister, Mrs. Gordon Stewart
and family at RR 2, Ripley.
Walter joined his family for the
weekend.

The Huron County Health
Unit staff welcomed a new staff
member as of August 1 when
John Orr, 26, assumed the
position of staff health inspec-
tor for the Central Huron
Region.
Mr. Orr comes to Huron from
a position with the Department

Welfare's..Medical Services
Branch where' he was an en-
vironmental health officer co-
ordinating health education in
the sanitation division at Sioux
Lookout.
In that position much of Mr.
Bay Village, Ohio, are
vacationing in the Village.
Mr. and Mrs. W,C. Parker,
Charlie, Kim and Jennifer,
London, are spending a few
days with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Parker. While here,
Charlie is visiting with Ricky
Penahle,
Mrs. Jack Fraser Jr. Van-
couver, B.C. and her niece Miss
Cynthia Griffiths, London, are
visiting at the home of Mrs.
Helen Fraser.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ander-
son, Barbie and Paul St. Marys
and Ken Sturgeon, Preston,
spent Sunday with her mother,
Mrs. Maude Sturgeon,
Mrs, Jack Hammond accom-
panied Mr, and Mrs. Ed
Florian and Dennis of Clinton
on a recent trip to Port Dover
to visit their brother, Newton
Sturgeon and niece Mrs. Jim
Martin in Victoria,
Mr. and Mrs. Pat Bean, Lit-
tle Ferry, New Jersey, recently
visited his sister Mr, and Mrs.
Jim Sturgeon, Clinton, and
friends in the Village.
Rev, and Mrs. W. Foster,
Detroit, Michigan are spending
some time at their cottage.
Mrs. A.S. Morton returned
on the weekend following a
holiday with her son-in-law,
daughter and family, Dr. and
Mrs. J.A. Forrester in Ottawa.
They also spent sometime at
their cottage in the Gatineau
Hills. While in Ottawa, Mrs.
Morton attended the triennial
conference of the Canadian
Federation of University
Women in Carleton University.
Orr's work involved the native
peoples over a 160,000 square
mile region covering from the
Manitoba border to Hudson
Bay.
A graduate of Ryerson
Polytechnical Institute in 1968
Mr. Orr spent four years with
the Bruce County Health Unit
as a staff., inspector before
moving to Sioux Lookout.
The new staff member, his
wife Joy and children Andrew,
three, and Jody, three months,
will be living at Meneset
Mobile Park.
Television's most engaging

dstand on Tuesday, Sept, 11

The country-boy whose
homespun humor has endeared
him to millions will appear at
three grandstand shows as a
special feature of "Senior
Citizens' Day". He will be
remembered by many for his
role as Gene Autry's sidekick in
more than. 170 movies and
television films. Television
viewers will recognize him as
the crafty Mr. Haney, whose
hilarious harassment of Oliver
Douglas (Eddie Albert) adds
comic confusion to the weekly
"Green Acres" series.
Buttram, with his
sophisticated, pointed sense of
humor, has been one of the
great comedy geniuses in the
entertainment profession,
On the same bill is former
Miss America ... now, Miss En-
tertainment ... Vonda Van
Dyke, the world-famous Jerry
Murad's Harmonicats and the
lovely Elkins Sisters with their
synchronized music and
acrobatic act, Paul Lennon, im-
pressionist and singer will act
as M.C. and delight audiences
with his original charac-
terizations and explosive
comedy talent.
The variety revue starring
Pat Buttram is free to all
fairgoers on Tuesday, Sept. 11.
Performance times are 2 p.m., 7
