Union Gas workers Claude Sinclair turns oft a gas valve
on Townsend Street in Clinton last Thursday at 415 p.m.

History has a way of
repeating itself and it seems to
be doing just that for the family
of Mr. Ed Grealis, 48 Huron
Street, Clinton. Three
generations have picked Sep-
tember 1 as a wedding date.
Fifty years ago, Ed Grealis
married the late Pearl Makins
on September 1, 1923 and he
has resided at the Huron Street
address since then. Twenty-five
years ago his daughter, Audrey
Grealis, married Hubert
Schroeder September 1, 1948
they reside at 19 Main Street,
Exeter. And now - his grand-
son, Raymond Riley of Lon-
desboro will be marrying Miss
Kathy Steepe of Ho1mesville on
September 1, 1973 - they will
reside -in Goderich,
Mrs, Fred Anderson, RR 5,
Clinton, returned home Sunday
after visiting relatives in
Toronto, Peterborough,
Kingston and Bailieboro.
A return guest in our office
this past month has been Mr.
Ken Stewart of Toronto. Mr.
Stewart was researching old
files for information pertinent
to his family. While in Clinton
he stayed with his aunt and un-
cle, Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Stewart,
Princess St, East.
There are people who need
the church and there are people
whom the Church needs,
There are those in A &Apar-
tate plight from lacking what it
means to ask the meaning of
life, There are the well who do
not need to send for a
physician, who need to BE
physicians..
Accusations of "hypocrisy"
are not aimed at individual
church members, but at the in-
stitution for promising what it
is now willing to discipline it-
self to achieve. There are hard
questions being posed by those
who hear words like
forgiveness, love, joy, peace,
hope and recon4iliation, but
who meet suspicion, despair,
fear, and alienation, •
The church which hopes to
claim the loyalty of people
must develop an uncom-
promising honesty about what
its real talk is, and how to
bring the healing, life, and
freedom it promises,
There are too many church
members who think the
solution to their own salvation
is to fire the preacher or choir

Although general meetings
have been cancelled during the
summer months, Branch 140
has been comparatively busy
with bingos, wedding receptions
etc.
The Branch had golfers
representing it at the zone golf
tournament and as a result had
four teams qualify for the
district tournament. This was
played at Owen Sound on Sun-
day August 27. Sports officer
Ten Arnston advises that out of
20 teams entered, our first
team finished seventh and all
golfers were pleased with the
tournament. •
The new Share The Wealth
program has proven quite suc-
cessful to date, and it is hoped
the success will continue. The
tickets are drawn the latter
part of each month and to date,
have all been, won by what
might be called Clintonians,
For June, the winner was Mrs.
Jim Handy of Ailsa Craig, a
former Clintonian. The cap-
tain and seller were Percy
Brown and Marg Thornlike.
The July winner was Theo
Flynn and captain and seller in
this draw was Percy Brown.
The winner for August was
Eleanor McCullough and the
captain and seller was Mrs.
Dennis (Helen) Bisback,
In each case, the Share The
Wealth has meant -ap-
proximately $500 for the win-
ner and $200 for each of the
building fund and the com-
munity projects fund. The first
donation was to assist in pur-
chasing the vehicle for wheel
director, rather than to learn to
love and forgive, to grow ,and
serve, They have been
slaved by the demon of negativism and can only com-
plain and grow bitter in every
situation, They can tell you
everything which is wrong with
other people, the world and the
very church in which they hope
to find ,eternal life, But they
cannot tell you one thing about
life that is worth extending into
Eternity!
The community of Faith
which will build the future will
be those who can say, "Yes" to
life. It will be so committed
that the numbness of fear and
emptiness of rote-repetition
will crumble before its
awareness and intentionality.
The Lord of Love will master
its depressions, despondencies,
desperations and despair, when
the theological world restores
its discipline of love, its clarity
of vocabulary, its selflessness of
service, and its vibrancy of
hope.
The Church must be a
hospital, not a mortuary.
chairs etc. at Huronview.
Tickets may be purchased
from Legion members or at the
Hall so if interested?????
