In ''laird Division League
i ii play a the weekend, Clinton
played 0 a scorelette tie against
the St. art's Spartans, before
* very sparse crowd who never-
theless, made up for their lack
of numbers by their en-
thusiasen.
There was little in the game
to shout about, however with
uninspired paly form both
• teams, Derwin Carter again
turned in a very good display in
goal, and Victor Kennedy, at
centre half, played his usual
strong defensive game.
Clinton had a few good
moves on the St. Marys goal,
but could not finish the play by
putting the ball in the net. For-
tunately, St. Marys had the
same problem,
This Sunday, July 22nd,
Clinton hosts London Lions 'B'
who are presently league
leaders in the western division,
In Minor Soccer on the
weekend, four games were
played. The Clinton Mosquito
'A' team won their first game,

Last week's action saw the
Clinton Colts take over Bole
peassission of first place in the
Huron-Perth Standings, one full
game ahead of second ,place
Thorndale Angels. The Colts
registered victories, over Dash-
wood and Exeter.
In Dashwood last Tuesday
'night, the Colts hammered out
15 hits in bombing the Tigers by
a score of 15-5. Stew Mustard
gained his third pitching
decision of the year by striking
out 15 batters and walking six,
Everyone in the Colts line-up
had at least one hit. The Bar-
tliff brothers, Don and Paul
each crashed a homer. Don hit
a two run homer in the third
and Paul, who is trying to
break into the starting line-up
has supplied some very key hits
for the Colts thus far this year.
His homer gave him two for the
season.
Leading the Colts hitting at-
tack with three hits was Stew
Mustard. Stew now has 13 hits
in his last 23 at bat in raising
his average from .208 to a
respectable .383, Gary Fleet,
Don Bartliff, Paul Bartliff, and
Greg Burns had two hits each,
Singles were picked up by Bob
Livermore, Doc Miller, Rick
Fremlin, and Danny
Colquhoun,
In Exeter last Sunday after-
noon, it ,took the Colts 11 in,
nings to defeat a stubborn
Exeter team by a score of 11.10.
Cam MacDonald, in relief of
Stew Mustard, picked up his
first win of the season. Without
four regulars, the Colts still
unleashed a 16 hit attack.
Exeter jumped off to an early,
2-0 lead in the first inning. But
the Colts struck back in the
second inning with 4 runs to
take a 4-2 lead. Playing coach
Bob Livermorei3 double, with
the bases loaded, was the key
hit of the rally, knocking in
three runs.
Exeter took the lead in the
fourth by scoring 4 runs on only
two hits. Three Clinton errors
opened the door for most of the
Exiter scoring.
The game see-sawed back
and forth until the ninth.
Exeter was leading 10.8 going
into the ninth. Paul Bartliff led
off the ninth with a walk. Greg
Burns singled Paul to third
base. When. Greg was thrown
out trying to steal second base,
Paul came home with the tying
run,
In the eleventh, with Greg
Burns on second base, with two
out, Cam MacDonald hit a fly
to right field, When the fielder
misplayed the ball in the sun,
Burns was able to score from
second base with the winning
run.
Stew Mustard again led the
Colts with three singles. Bob
Livermore had a triple and
double; Larry Pickett two
singles; Hans Leppington two
singles; Rick Fremlin two
singles; and Greg Burns a
triple and single. One hit each
was gathered by Cal Fremlin,
Paul Bartliff, and Cam
MacDonald.
The Colts record now stands
at 10 runs, three losses and a
tie. Clinton plays two games
this weekend. Friday night the
Colts are at home to Exeter at
