The 72 graduate* of the
Grade 8 elites at Huron Centen-
nial School, Brucefield, were
honoured Tuesday June 26
with A dinner attended by their
Parents and teachers.
Dianne Oldfield of R.R. 4,
&Worth, wee named top
academic girl and Bev Can.,
talon of R.R. 5, Clinton, was
runner-up,
Dale Parsons of KR, 2, Kip,
pan, was top academic boy and.
Robert Heard of Hayfield run-
nor-up.
Best all round girl was
Sharon Finlayson of R.R.
Kippen, and Debbie Rose of
R.R. 4, Seaforth was runner-up.
Beat all round box was
Robert Heard of Hayfield and
runner-up was Jeff Allan of
KR. 1, Brucefield.
The Fred Chapple memorial
award was presented by his
son, Wayne Chapple of
Petawawa, to Debbie Consitt of
R.R. 3, Kippen, the student
who has done the most for
sports in Grade 8.
A staff award to the student
who has contributed much to
sports in Grade 8 went to
Kathy Lawrence of R.R. 4,
Seaforth.
The Ralph Whitmore
memorial award was presented
to his sister, Karen. Whitmore,
R.R. 4, Seaforth, to Janice Pep-
Christopher found a
strange notebook and pencil
on the way home from school.
Things that he drew in it
came to life. He drew a bird in
a tree, and the bird flew down
to catch a worm. A squirrel
chattered at him. Then
suddenly Christopher was
inside the notebook world. He
drew some more animals.
Then he tried to draw a girl to
play with. 'But his drawing
looked more like a witch.
"What a funny witch!" he
laughed. The witch was
angry. "I will turn you into a
puMpkin!" she shouted. And
when he tried to erase her,
she put a spell on his eraser.
Quickly Christopher drew a
,magic lamp and rubbed ,it
hard. A genie popped out. In a
Bash he made th6 witch
disappear. Then he fixed
Christopher's eraser. And he
made a beautiful little girl
named Miranda. "I've had
my three wishes," said
Christopher. "Now what can I

The Ruth Berrien Elliott
memorial was presented by
Mrs, Grant Turner of Hayfield
to Louisa Martens of Hayfield
as the top academic student in
the Hayfield area.

senior winners, were awarded
to; Nancy Dietz of R.R. 3,
Seaforth and Bill Stephenson
of R.R. 1, Varna.
The award of excellence from
the Federal Government,
Recreation Canada, went. to
Nancy Dietz and Janet Taney
The Evaporator Plant
division of Domtar Chemical's
Sifto Salt operation in
Goderich laid off 44 members
of Local 682 Interoational
CheMieal Workers employed at
the plant on Wednesday mor-
ning.

Boutilier explained that the
men were laid off because the
company can no longer ship
salt, Striking members of the
same local, who are employed
by' the Sifto Salt mine locally,
have been picketting the plant

promised to come back to
visit her again.

salt mine workers are on strike
but they have been picketting
Domtar's evaporator operation
since an incident last week
when a truck load of equipment
for the mine crossed picket
lines.
President of the striking
union faction, Harold Leddy,
refused to talk with Signal Star
reporters on Wednesday. When
asked how long the picket line
had been in force around the
