Mr. and Mrs, Harry Cum-

graduated the same day from
Clark University, Worcester,
Mass. Harry has his Master's
degree in Advanced Geography
and his wife, Marion, has her
BA in French. Harry, who is
the son of Mr. and Mrs, Frank
Cummings, is working at the
Ontario Development Research
Centre in Ottawa.
Under a Federally financed
program, through the Historic
Sites branch of the Department
of Indian Affairs and Northern
Development, two Toronto
students, Chris Borgal and
Lloyd Jones, are working in
Clinton searching for homes
constructed prior to IMO,
The research team just com-
pleted more than a month of
survey work in Goderich and
surrounding area where they
turned up nearly 100 historic
buildings.
The students are part of a
survey team operated under a
program known as "A
Canadian Inventory of Historic
Buildings". They are involved
in phase one of a three part
program which calls for the
location and recording of all
buildings constructed in the
years previous to 1880 through
out Western Ontario.
The survey, which started in
the summer of 1970 in two
dozen cities from Dawson in
the Yukon to St. John's
Newfoundland, is believed to
be the first comprehensive ar-
chitectural inventory in the
world created for a eom
puterized information system.
The three steps project will
take eight to 10 years to com-
plete, beginning with the study
of building exteriors and
culminating with in depth
studies of the best structures.
Phase one is scheduled for
completion in 1973 and will
provide for the recording of the
exteriors of nearly 100,000
buildings and will produce a
complete view of Cdnadian ar-
chitectural heritage.
Phase two will involve recor-
ding in great detail the in-
teriors and analysing the struc-
tures of the best 5,000 buildings
selected from the results of,
phase one.
In Phase three, particularly
significant structures chosen
from the second survey will be
studied for historical and ar-
chitectural background and
eventually considered for

The primary purpose of the
inventory is to provide a rapid

or group of buildings, but to be
able to compare it with all
