Present were 11 members and the Rector, the Rev. George Youmatoff. Regret was expressed that our popular president Mrs. Don Middleton was unable to attend. In her absence, Mrs. Ray Wise, the vice-president ably chaired the meeting. Mrs. Wise opened with a poem, "We call it Spring" Mrs. James Storey, Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Cole were in charge of devotions and Meditations on the theme of "The Gift of Powers". Mrs. Jas Storey read the Meditations and Mrs. Miller the Scripture lesson, Mrs. Storey gave the secretary's report. "Thank-you's" were received from Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hudie for an Easter lily also from Mrs. Don Middleton and Mrs. Youmatoff. Mrs. Ed- ward Wise expressed ay- , preciation of various members help on her daughter's wedding day. Mrs. Dutot presented a healthy fins:midi statement. "Parable of a Young Mother" The big chicken barbecue was discussed as our major project for this summer. Plans are 'still tentative. A highlight of the evening was the Dutch Auction under the direction of Mrs. Joseph Storey. This new venture proved both lucrative and ex- citing! There were bargains galore on such items as fresh eggs, hand made doilies,dahlias rose bushes etc! Mrs. Smith served a boun- teous lunch, assisted by Mrs. S. Middleton. The meet, won by Stratford Central, included all the secon- dary schools in Huron and Perth Counties. St. Marys, who have won the total points tally the last 19 years, were second and Goderich was third. Strat- ford Northwestern were forth. CHSS managed only one first in individual competition when Randy Millar took the junior discus title with a toss of 119'5'' . Bill Cantelon was second in the senior boy's long jump and Don MacDonald was second in the junior boy's long jump. Once there was a very fat boy — so fat he couldn't sit down on a chair without breaking it. The children of the village teased hip and called him Blimpo. BuOhe just kept on eating. One'day a messenger came: "King Justin is havin.g a contest. Anyone fatter than he is, can marry the King's beautiful daughter Caroline and become the new King." Everyone in the village thought Blimpo could win. So they sent him off with a mule train full of food supplies. The crowd at the castle buzzed when they saw Blimpo. Surely he would win. The King thought so too. "You must be tired," he said. "Why don't you rest before we weigh you?" The guards led Blimpo to a fine bedroom — and locked him in! For days King Justin kept him locked there, with only bread and water to eat. In girl's action, Pat Kay The Clinton Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi enjoyed an ex- cellent dinner meeting at the Bedford Hotel in Goderich. Dinner was followed by a brief welcome to the pledges, a run down of the year's ac- tivities and the Founder's Day Message. A lovely pottery arrangement was presented to president Jo Ann Sullen and the Girl of the Year pin and gift was presented to Betty Lockhart of Clinton. The crowd gasped when they saw Blim- po. He was thin and hand- some. He had lost the contest! But Caroline begged her father to let Blimpo marry her after all. And the King agreed. Jewels ceremony followed the presentations . This is a ritual to welcome the pledges of the past six months into full mem- bership of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Lois Fitzgerald, Dianne Harloff and Brenda Rutledge were welcomed into the circle of friendship and each presen- ted with their Ritual of Jewel pin and a yellow rose. Lastly, the officers for the 1973-74 term were inducted in a ceremony, passing on the symbols of office.
