J. Low, Admin. Clerk-Treasurer of Fergus. The Hon. John White, Provincial Treasurer and Minister of Economics and In- tergovernmental Affairs spoke to the convention and was war- mly received. Several resolutions were en- dorsed. Amongst these were a request for provincial grants for the operation of municipal swimming pools, Because municipalities must operate municipal swimming pools within the requirements of the Public Health Act, it was resolved and passed that the Ontario Government be asked to provide grants for the operation of municipal swim- ming pools. A resolution was passed recommending the Government of Ontario be requested to give serious consideration to the establishment of a special com- mittee having full municipal representation, supported by adequate financial and staff resources, to carry out a detailed examination of the whole subject of conflicts of in- terest. * * The 1973 Canadian National Exhibition Women's Prize List is available now. Varna BY FRED MCCLYMONT The May meeting of the United Church Women was held in the basement of the Church last Thursday evening with 23 members present. Group Two were in charge of Devotions led by Mrs. Roy Elliott who introduced the hymn "0 Happy Home" which was sung by all. Mrs. Aldie Mustard read the scripture lesson and gave an inspiring reading on "Mother's Day". The offering was taken up by Mrs. Murdock Morrison and dedicated by Mrs. Harvey Hayter. Mrs. Roy Elliott and Mrs. Mervyn Hayter gave a reading "A Tribute to Mother". The business period was then in charge of Mrs. Ralph Stephenson. Mrs. Gordon John- ston read the minutes of the last meeting and the roll call was answered. "Thank you" notes were read by Mrs. Ida McClinchey. Mrs. Bob Webster gave the treasurer's report. Forty-five calls were made to the sick and shut-ins during the month of April. This part of the meeting was closed by the Lord's Prayer. A baking, candy and plant sale followed and was very suc- cessful. Grace was sung and lunch was served and provided by hostesses Mrs. Bob-Stirling and Mrs, Murdock Morrison. (staff photo) About 34 girls from C.H.S.S. grade 12 and 13 classes received a tour of the Clinton Hospital Wednesday May 2. The girls were guests of the Women's Auxiliary of the Hospital in conjunction with the Guidance Department of the Last Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the 20th Annual Conference of the Town and Village Section of the Asscciation of Municipalities of Ontario was held at Leamington, Ontario. Mayer Don Symons who has been president of the organization was in attendance. He will continue on the executive as Past President. Also present from Clinton were Reeve Harold Lobb, Deputy- reeve Frank Cook, Councillors Ruth Roy and Roy Wheeler and Town Clerk, Cameron Proctor. Several wives accom- panied their husbands. M.G. Mrs. Irene Cantelon presided. The church service will be held on May 20th in Wesley Church at 11 a.m. and a good turnout is hoped for. The next regular meeting will be Tuesday May 22nd. auction. At the District meeting held in Seaforth recently Mrs. Mary Grigg was nominated D.D.P. for coming term of 1973-74. Please note change of date.
