Nearly 400 persons enjoyed
the annual pancake supper last
Wednesday evening in the Sun-
day school room of Knox
United Church,
The committee in charge was
Mrs. Ross Andrews, Mrs.
Gerald McDowell, Mrs, James
Schneider and Mrs, Walter
Cunningham. They are very
grateful for those who assisted
in any way to make it such a
success.
The Young People of the
Sunday school served the
guests. Pastor Alfred Fry of-
ficially opened the pancake
supper.
Mrs. Harvey Howson of
Lucknow, Federated Women's
Institutes of Ontario Public
Relations Officer, will be guest
speaker at the 73rd District an-
nual held this year in Dungan-
non on May 30th, it was an-
nounced at the Huron West
District Executive meeting held
last Wednesday at St. Helens
W.I. hall.
The president, Mrs. Harold
Gaunt St. Helens, was in
charge of the meeting and Mrs.
Graham McNee of Dungannon,
secretary-treasurer read the
minutes which were adopted as
read.
The curators of the branches
met with the district curator,
Mrs. Gordon Taylor, to discuss
their work during the past year,
The presidents of the branches
were named and a nominating
committee with Mrs, Cecil
Elliott of Clinton as convenor
was picked.
The District Annual program
was outlined and discussed and
it was decided that the district
directors would help with the
fashion parade of wedding
dresses. Mrs. Ivan Wightman
of I3elgrave was named corn,
mentator. Members were
present from Auburn, Be'grave,
Blyth, Clinton, Dungannon,
Goderich, Goderich Township,
Londesboro, St. Helens, Tiger
Dunlop and Wingham.
BAPTISM
The Baptism and Dedication
of infants took place last Sun-
day at Knox United Church
with the minister, Pastor
Alfred Fry in charge. Mrs. Nor-
man Wightman was in charge
of the organ and accompanied
a duet sung by Misses Lorraine
Chamney and Doris Naylor.
The children baptized were:
Leona Eileen Cunningham,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas Cunningham;
Stephanie Jane Fults, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Austin Fults;
Karen Elizabeth Plunkett,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin
Plunkett and Kerrie Kathleen
McClinchey, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. John McClinchey.
AUBURN 4-H
The sixth meeting of Auburn
No. 4, 4-H club was held last
week at the home of the leader,
Mrs. Frank Raithby, The
president Maureen Longhurst
opened the meeting with the 4,
H pledge. The minutes were
read by Linda Van Dongen and
approved as reed.
Mrs. Frank Raithby led in
the discussion of the proper
way to put in a zipper and how
to put elastic in the top of
slacks, This was later demon-
strated,
The roll call was answered
by each girl telling how they
were going to. care for their
finished garments. The
meeting was closed with the 4-
H Creed,
EXPLORERS
The Auburn Explorers held a
meeting on April 3 in the Sun-
day school room of Knox
United Church. The parents of
the girls were invited for the
program and to observe them
receive their stars.
The meeting was opened
with all repeating the Explorer
Purpose which was led by
Tracy Machan, the president.
The motto was the repeated
and the song-This is my
Father's World was sung. The
offering was received in Easter
baskets by Mollie McBride and
Debbie Cunningham. Misses
Kim and Patti McDowell gave
a piano duet and Vicki Powell
gave a reading on
Spring, A selection of songs
was played by Miss Doreen
McClinchey. A play was
presented with all the girls
taking part.
Miss Brenda Ball, • Chief
Counsellor and Mrs. Alfred Fry
presented the girls with their
stars. The first red stars were
presented to Vicki Powell,
Anita Hallam, Tracy Machan,
Patti McDowell, Molly
McBride, Nancy Verbeek, and
Lynda and Debbie Cun-
ningham. The first blue stars
were given to Doreen Jefferson,
Ellen Thompson, Janice Robin-
son, Dianne McBride and Kim
McDowell.
A reading was given by
Dianne McBride followed by a
piano solo by Anita Hallam. A
sing-song led by Miss Doreen
McClinchey 'vas enjoyed by all.
'Cake ailiceitream was served
for lunch and pictures were
taken.
PERSONALS
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Ar-
chambault and Mr. and Mrs.
Douglas Fraser of Walton
returned last week from a
holiday in Florida.
Mr. and Mrs. Miatland Allen
visited with Mr. and Mrs.
William S. Craig an d family of
Clinton and also with Mrs.
Ella Castle who had recently
come home from the hospital
and is with her daughter and
son-in-law
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hamlyn
of Lambeth spent Sunday after-
noon with his uncle and aunt,
Mr. and Mrs. Albert
McFarlane.
Several from this community
attended the concert at the
White Carnation at
Holmesville for the Cancer
Society last Wednesday
evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Weston
of Toronto spent the weekend
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Alfred Rollinson and her
brother, Mr. Murray Rollinson.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas
Haggitt spent the weekend with
his brother, Mr. Joe Haggitt,
and Mrs. Haggitt at
Leamington.
Mr. and Mrs. George Robb
and Mr. and Mrs. Paul John-
ston, all of London, spent the
weekend with the ladis'
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred
Sanderson.
Mr. Gerrit Klaas is a patient
in Victoria hospital, we wish
him a speedy recovery, •
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Haines
attended the baptismal service
at Fordwich United Church
when Donald Norman Liver-
more, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Ronald Livermore, their grand-
son, was baptized.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Robinson
visited at Newmarket on Sun-
day with their son, Mr, Keith
Robinson, Mrs. Robinson and
Kim, whose second birthday
they celebrated,
Mrs. Ralph Munro returned
last weekend from a holiday
with heffamily 'at WaSago:and
with Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Youngblut, Bruce, Susan and
Kristen at Toronto, Mr, and
Mrs. Glen Youngblut, John and
Jennifer at Ottawa and Mr.
and Mrs. Donald Youngblut,
Lorie, Barry and Bradley in
London.
Mrs. Gordon Taylor visited
last week for a few days with
her daughter, Mrs. Ronald
Rathwell, Mr. Rathwell,
Michael and Janice at Parkhill.
At time of writing, the
following are patients in Clin-
ton hospital - Mrs. Bob Slater,
Mr. William Dodd, Mr. Wilfred
Plunkett and Mr. Sidney
McClinchey. We wish them a
speedy recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Eidsen of
Arva visited last Sunday with
her grandfather, Mr, William J.
Craig and uncle and aunt, Mr.
and Mrs. Maitland Allen.
NORTH HURON
4—H SWINE CLUB MEETING
The North Huron 4-H Swine
Club met in the Clinton Town
Hall on Tuesday, April third.
John Mitchell, the president,
opened the meeting with the
members repeating the 4-H
Pledge. We had discussion of
hog feeds and feeding with a
display of samples. A film was
shown, "The New Pork". The
film was informative and told
about the qualities of pork.

A regular meeting of Beta
Sigma Phi was held at the
Credit Union building on
March 27. The opening ritual
was repeated, followed by the
roll call, communications, and
the treasurer's report.
Vice-president Vivienne Roy
reported on the pledge train
ning meeting held earlier a
Brenda Rutledge's home.
Social chairman, Marj
Dokson, announced that
proceeds from our dance are
going to be donated to the Kin-
smen for the needed
washrooms at the arena. We
have not received tickets for
the festival in Stratford and
each girl was asked to keep
May 28th open for this event.
A motion was made by the
Service committee to convene
the Arthritis Campaign in Oc-
tober and the Kinnettes will
assit in convassing.
Marion Durnin presented an
excellent program on pictures.
Each girl was asked to draw a
fellow sister in sorority. A light
lunch was preceded by the
closing ritual.
The Clinton Chapter of Beta
Sigma Phi will celebrate the
CLINTON II— 4—H
The seventh meeting of the
Clinton II "Ployesters" was
held on April 2nd at Mrs.
Jenkins. The meeting was
opened with the 4—H pledge.
Our next meeting will be held
on April 9th at Mrs. Ellis's.
Our acheivement day will be
held on May 12th and Louise
Lovett is going to be our com-
mentator. For our demon-
stration, we were shown how to
apply an elastic waist band in
firm knits. The meeting was

42nd Anniversary of the
organization's founding on
May 2nd, 1973. A banquet, in
which the chapter will join for
the occasion, will be held at the
Bedford Hotel in Goderich.
,Forty-two years ago, the first
chapter of the sorority was for-
med in Abilene, Kansas. There
are now approximately 10,500
chapters, and 250,000 members
in the United States, Canada
and foreign countries and
territories.
In addition to the banquet,
tradional ceremonies will be
observed. The history of the
local Chapter will be reviewed
and the new members will
receive their first welcome to
membership.
